I sat in the car for 1 1/2 hours today! That is a first in 4 months. About 3 weeks after I read Dr Sarno's book, the back discomfort and pain and stiffness finally ceased...

but now I have a sharp shooting pain in my right glut and discomfort in my right outer calf.

My back feels great though!

From what I have read, TMS likes to move around, and I beleive this is what is going on now.

Please share your experiences with me regarding pain moving from back to sciatica/piraformis syndrome?

I'm going to beat this!

This shows you that your pain was not structural.

I can attest to the symptoms moving around once the back pain leaves. Just address this new symptom the same way you did your back pain. Remind yourself that the cause is psychological and that it will go away. Re-read some of Dr. Sarno's book. Do some journaling about things going on in your life.

Good luck

Great news. Can I ask if the back pain got worse before it got better?

Yes, it did get worse before it got better. About 2 1/2 weeks into the program it was SUPER bad, could not sit in the car more than 2 minutes before my back siezed up. That particular day was very stressful. My wife broke a toe and we spent the day at the hospital and I had all this work looming over my head.

I beleive that day is what also triggered off the sciatica because the next day is when the sciatica really got bad. It is getting a litle better each day now.

So the TMS could not hold on to the back anymore so it decided to go after the piaformis and sciatic nerve. Dam that TMS! I am on the right path though!

The day I am mentioning above is the day I really saw, without question, a link between stress and my back pain.

speedskater, I am one of doctor sarnos patients and the main reason for me going there was due to back pain and the worst sciatic pain of my life. I also had muscle spasms in my buttock area. I could no longer wear high heals, sit in class, lay on my back, or stretch. Just to name a few. I was diagnosed with TMS and i was cured from sciatic pain the fastest. That beast went away immediately years ago and has never ever come back once! TMS is tricky so it moves around now that I am cured from back pain etc i suffer from much stranger symptoms like shortness of breath, anxiety, panic, and lots of stomach problems that Im not sure if they are tms so I am going to get an endoscopy and possibly colonoscopy. anywayyyy i just wanted to reassure you that its tms, without a doubt. keep up your tms work and itll slowly start diminishing.

pains move around and each ome is nasty in its own way, and distracting.
as long as it does not imprison you, you are good.

I think therefore I am.

Jenna, I hope you read this reply...

Three summers ago I had stomache problems, did not have a solid bowle movement for 4 MONTHS! Could not eat, lost 10 pounds, went to see a gastroentoligist and he subscribed me an antidepresent because I was "Too Stressed".

(note: at this time three summers ago I did not know of TMS)

I knew I was working too much. So when I got the antidepresents I put the bottle on my shelf, and looked at it every day and the temtation to start taking them was very strong.

I did not take them.

I did a few other things:
1) started going to Tuesday morning mass with my Dad to show myself I could put something ahead of church
2) cut back on the work load
3) worked on my 1968 Firebird
4) Yoga and Meditation

Gradually things returned to normal.

This past January, I again took on more work than I konw I should have and the problems started. Could not sit, pain every day, and you know the rest.

I just finished a huge project and have again learned my personal work-load limits again and hope to never have them return.

Thank you for the post. The Sciatica is getting less every day.

And it DOES move around! My foot started to hurt the the other day.
