I've often thought of this as a minor TMS equivalent.
Notice when someone is very nervous and has to answer to someone, they often swallow before speaking. I've also heard of people's mouths going dry when they're very nervous, so I can believe a link between saliva production and one's emotional state.
I thought of this reading Rory Stewart's "The Places In Between," a chronicle of the young Scot's walk across Afghanistan soon after the Taliban fell. Fascinating book. But he writes of leaving Afghanistan after the walk and sitting in a car with the dog he found along the way.
"The car was small, and Babur (the dog) and I shared the front passenger seat, his hindquarters between my legs, his paws on my shoulder, and his dribble on my sweater. He was terrified of cars, having never seen them in his village, and he dribbled a great deal."
I wouldn't be surprised if dogs experienced emotionally-induced maladies as well. And while producing excess saliva isn't much of a malady, I do think this could be a minor TMS equivalent and that one's emotional state could be connected to one's saliva production.
I found the dryness in my eyes that prevented me from wearing contact lenses to go away, along with my much more debilitating and severe RSI from typing, once I'd read MBP. |

I definately agree. I have been suffering from dry eyes, dry mouth, and various other small symptoms for about 6 months. I hope, anyway, that these are emotionally induced. |

This is definitely a possibility. Salivary glands are innervated by the autonomic nervous sytstem, which mediates many of the sequalae of mindbody syndromes. However, many medications/toxins can also cause salivary changes so make sure you always consult a physician first.

I've been having dry mouth for about 3 months now. It came out of nowhere. The more I pay attention to it, the worse it gets. I don't think I have that dry mouth disease(forget name). I'm just really dry no matter how much water I drink. Has to be some sort of nervous response. And I'm not on any meds or serious change in diet.
