I read Dr. Sarno's "Divided Mind" about a month ago. I have been doing the "TMS homework" he talks about, and am now reading "The Mind-Body Prescription"
The symptoms actually seems to be getting worse and they are 100% consistent. There is no good times of the day, they are bad all day. Is this ok??? Could this signify that I don't have TMS and have something else??? |

I suggest you continue to read the book repeatedly until it sinks in.
It is very common for symptoms to get worse before they get better. TMS has been an effective strategy of your unconscious mind for your entire life. Now the light bulb has been turned on and suddenly you are threatening that strategy. So your unconscious mind "kicks it up a notch" in an attempt to thwart you from pursuing your newfound discovery. Don't let it win. |

Thanks dave, I figured something like this might be happening. It's very hard to rid myself of all doubt though, which I know...is the minds strategy...but what if my thoughts of this being TMS are total bull**** and it is a real problem? |

You've seen a doctor, right? You've ruled out serious disease or illness, right?
If so, then what do you have to lose by treating it as TMS?
You are a healthy young man. Consider the anxiety and hypochondria as symptoms. |

To have some doubts come up regularly in the course of changing your thinking about your problems is natural. The important thing is your behavior in response to the doubts. If you respond internally to your doubts with confident thoughts, and your actions show that you continue treating the symptoms as TMS, then you remain committed to the treatment and you should begin to see success. It's when you let the doubts eat at you that trouble begins.
-- It's not 100% belief that's required, but 100% commitment. |
