I think that many musicians shy away from their instruments of choice because of TMS, due to chronic pain. Depression or lack of motivation via TMS takes the joy out of many things as we all know.
Recently I got back to a full dedication to my music. I was a producer a long time ago. Mostly I play piano(advanced) and I play Bass(Intermediate). I picked up Guitar about a year and a half ago and my practice was once a week, if that.
So about two weeks ago I dedicated myself to a guitar "boot camp" so to speak. I haven't really had any pain to speak of for two weeks. That on top of the fact I just keep busy and don't let the pain intimidate me when it DOES come up. SO I'm basically TMS free right now, and all my "extra" time goes to guitar training. It feels good.
But I do notice that I have other TMS equivalents trying to sneak in. Heartburn is really active and this nausea feeling is hanging around. That and this sense of being "uneasy"in my own skin. I'll have to deal with them too.
But I guess my point was to say that for musicians, getting back to playing is a must IMO. Especially if you are the type that was born with the fever. We all know that our "kind" can't just walk away from it and expect to feel whole.

I really agree. I'm a drummer, and it has helped me alot when I got back to my drumming..! I still feel a bit rusty though, haven't played for about a year. But I'm very serious about it (I practised about 3-4 hours before my encounter with the RSI/TMS thing). Now I'm playing one hour a day and enjoying myself. Soon I might boost up the practising, I'll see..! Gotta love music =)
