I read the mind body prescription and understand that pelvic pain may be a manifestation of TMS. (not understand but believe also). The question is what do I do after it? I was hoping that there is is something to be 'done' but all I understnad is that I should become aware of my emotions (which I am try) and not fear pain. Is this all to it or am I missing something (references to TMS docs in forums is very confusing? Can someone give me an outline of the program?

I have been through Dr Wise program without much success. I do try his tapes faithfully though

The Divided Mind by Sarno has specific recommendations of steps to follow. Keep reading, and thinking psychologically about your pain -

Could you please be more specific. Pelvic pain absolutely should be evaluated by a physician to rule out anything physically wrong......you can't just assume it is TMS

I had pelvic pain for 2.5 years before discovering Sarno. Believe me when I say this, it is TMS. If you've already been shot up with the loads of antibiotics they give you and they didn't do anything, you've got TMS. They have all kinds of half-baked ways of explaining why people get pain there, all the way up to Dr. Wise's treatment protocol which explains it as muscle tension. It's all a bunch of BS. Short of cancer or a very serious bladder/prostate infection (which antibiotics should take care of), it's TMS to the bone.

If you're having a really hard go of it, I feel for you. That !@#$ sucks. It's embarrassing and terrifying. I've been there, and I've beat it. You can to.

I've got enough information on my website to get anyone started on the recovery process. The address is in my signature down there.

Mostly it's about eliminating doubt that the TMS process exists, eliminating your fears of your brain's distraction strategies, becoming more emotionally aware, and killing your obsession with your physical symptoms.

I'm going to play devils advocate here...

I've had pelvic pain and mainly, Levator Ani Syndrome for 10 years. I've been everywhere for this, including the Mayo Clinic, tests in Houston, TX, and I've seen BOTH Dr. Wise and Dr. Weiss in San Fran.
I've had trigger point injections, pudendal nerve injections, caudal blocks, pudendal nerve motor latency tests, CT Scans, etc.

You name it, I've been there...trust me.

The main thing found in me was severe trigger points all around deep in my rectal area. That is why I have this "golf ball in the bum" feeling. Along with that, spasms and tightness.

For the longest time I sat on the fence between doing Physical Therapy (internal TP therapy) versus 100% TMS.

I have met BOTH people who have beat it as TMS AND with physical therapy measures...so it became VERY VERY confusing what approach would work.

WHAT WORKS FOR ONE WITH PELVIC PAIN IS NOT A UNIVERSAL APPROACH TO HEALING. This can be said with TMS vs. the PT approach.

So what I have done is decided to go the PT route for a full year. If I do not see significant progress, then at least I will KNOW it will not help me and I can look at TMS again.

But the good news is I've been doing this for about 2 months now and I'm finally starting to feel relief (knock on wood). Remember, I've has this for 10 years and I literally can feel those muscles inside me as hard as a rock, including super super tight bands. They have been so constricted for so long, I think the pattern had been set. Can my mind make these muscles literally relax and go back to their natural state? I honestly do not think so. I think at some point physical measures need to be taken and not everything can be beat as TMS when it comes to pelvic pain. Just my two cents. I'm simply going by my own PERSONAL observation and what I have been through and seen.

So PLEASE...if you have not ever had pelvic pain...DO NOT JUST SAY IT IS TMS to those who have it. You DO NOT KNOW...you are merely assuming. If you have been in our shoes, then you have more right to chime in.

Sure, it may be TMS...but at some point, other measures may need to be taken to beat it. It is a very very tricky thing.

It is like physical therapy with a person whose muscles have atrophied. They NEED PT to get back to the normal state of tone, flexibility and strength. I feel the same can be said with muscles in the rectal area and pelvic floor after YEARS of chronic tension...they change and need to be "dethawed".

Lastly, yes...I do think stress is the main culprit behind pelvic pain. I have no doubt about this. It is the true resolution that is the tricky part.

Anyway, just my view and two cents. Let the criticism begin, I surely expect it here...but that is ok.

Just wanna to tell that i had pelvic pain and went to all doctors there is.Nobody helped me in anyway. When i find about TMS,8 moths ago,my pains are mostly all gone, they appair sometimes and thas ussualy when i am in some kind of stress.I dont have any pains for 2 moths, then they come for 2 days and again they they are gone for long time. So for me Pelvic pain was 100% TMS.

P.S.My pains switched places when i find about TMS.They were all over my body, from my waist to my feet.

SRY ABOUT MY ENGLISH.
