Ok, I've read the books have the CD's. I totally believe in the diagnosis. I'm a true believer. The instant I read Sarno's book the first time, my back pain was gone and NEVER came back.
However, I have developed what I would call a "sciatic type" pain. I've had it since October. I have to admit I've only half assed at my journal but other than that I've really followed the program. I take about 6 Excedrin Extra Strength a day and that makes it totally bearable.
At any rate. My question is, should I meet this pain with force? I'm sick of it and I'm sick of the limited movement. Should I stretch into the pain as an act of defiance? Does that make sense? I really want to show the pain whose boss, but I don't know if this is the correct thing to do.
Go for a huge workout...aerobic and weights...whatever. Tell your subconcious that there is no fear. While your doing your aerobic, eally concentrate on what might be pissing you off...really focus on the psychological, even as your pushing yourself physically. If it's sciatic...take three Motrin before bed. You will be past it in no time...
I know what your going through. I spent most of last year with sciatic pain. For months it was all I could do to just get out of bed and go to the shower. I finally got some relief about 2 weeks ago and I would say I am now 95% pain free. Life is good again.
Don't set a time line on your recovery. If you do you are doomed to failure. We TMS'ers (perfectionist)want results and we want it now. Just take it one day at a time. Reread the books over and over. Our unconscious can be slow to catch on to the program.
You aked " Should I stretch into the pain". I stretch every day to stay flexable and only after doing some kind of cardio. Never stretch cold muscles.
Just keep in mind the stretching will not reduce your pain caused by TMS. Your TMS pain is derived from oxygen deprivation to your muscles, nerves, and joints which is controled by your unconscious mind. To reduce that pain you must rewire your brain by using Sarno's methods.
