Hi my name is Tracey and I am just being introduced to the TMS theory. I am in pretty debilitating lower back pain and have been since March. I have more bad days then good. I am out of work, and have been for 2 months now, which I have come to realize is a good thing for me personally. I am seeing a new DR. who might be able to help me with this, but was referred to this site by a friend. I need support. The pain is pretty severe and consuming me on a regular basis. The pain radiates down my legs, lower back is painful all the time, I am in physical therapy at a spine clinic to help with the muscles, but after 12 visits really have no progress( other than strength). Thank you for listening! |

Well it sounds like you could have TMS since your symptoms are similar to what I had: lower back & butt pain/ thigh tingling. Physical therapy didn't help because it wasn't a physical problem. Though the heat massage thingie they put on my butt cheek did help for a few minutes and felt cool! LOL
How about reading Dr. Sarno's books for starters? Also check out success stories on this forum to see what others have had and how they've been helped.
I suggest writing down whatever could be causing emotional pain: feel it and get the feelings out. That's what worked for me.
Best wishes Tracey. -Lori |

Hi Tracey,
I'm so sorry to hear about your lower back and leg pains. I am also new to the TMS approach but I've quickly become a strong believer. I also have been suffering from lower back pain (coccydynia) since March/April and pain is very much ruling my life at the moment. I am also seeing a PT for deep heat stimulation and ultrasound but have also noticed very little improvement. This is my last week and then I will focus all my recovery on the TMS approach.
So far I have gotten wonderful advice from other's suffering. Read Dr. Sarno's books and you will likely see your sypmtoms mirrored on every page as I did. I am also writing daily in a journal to try and let out my negative emotions from years of repressing these feelings. I am very optimistic this approach of psychsomatic therapy is what I need to heal. Hang in there. You are far from being alone but start writing, reading and really researching TMS so your mind will be able to accept this theory.
I hope you and I both start healing very soon.

Lindsay and Lori, Thank you for your support! I am sorry to hear that you have pain as well. I have started reading Sarno's books, and I do see that I am on every page! I guess all in good time. Wishing you a full recovery too! Thanks Tracey |

since you've been suffering since march, I would think you've ruled out anything serious (tumor, bone disease, fracture..etc) you s/b ready for some TMS treatment now!
You've suffered long enough to realize conventional medicine can't cure back pain.
What have you realized about your life that's giving you back pain? |

Not sure what I have learned about my life, but I know that it is time for me to start figuring it out. I am a very visual/action person. Not good with abstract, but I am willing to learn. I do know that I do not know how to recognize feelings, and that is part of why I am experiencing pain.
I see a new DR on Tuesday, and I have heard that he has experience with TMS. I am hopeful that I can start to move beyond the pain and really focus on what is truly at the cause of it. Thanks for listening! Tracey |

to move beyond the pain, keep reading the part where Sarno says the pain can't hurt you further and leaves no resulting damage when it's gone.
In time this should relax you so you can do the work. |

I am getting ready to do the work, I know that physically my back is in good condition for the age that I am at. It's natural degenerative changes. I need to find why I am experiencing pain. I have a lot going on in my life today, most of it is self imposed pressure, which might be a lot of this. I am still reading, I am a baby with this theory, and I appreciate the comments.
