Right after my first back surgery I started having this in my left big toe. Then, after my second back surgery this started in my right big toe. It's not all the time - but some nights it is so bad it wakes me up and/or makes it hard to go to sleep.

I know it is probably just TMS because I can go weeks without feeling this at all. But, when this happens, all my journaling and following of the TMS treatment plan doesn't seem to help at all. Before I heard of TMS and I was still seeing the back surgeon he said it was likely to be from damage to the nerves during the surgeries.

Have any of you who had back surgery experienced this? If so, did it eventually go away? It just seems that if I can overcome a back pain so severe that I was basically disabled then I should be able to overcome this.

It is kinda creepy that the doctor was almost shrug-like in his response that the surgeries caused nerve damage. I guess that's the price YOU pay for them getting to chop chop on your back. Acceptable collateral damage?
After what I've heard about back surgeries over the years, I don't think I would EVER let a back surgeon near my back.

Yes, toe pain comes and goes with me. TMS in the absence of any other explanation such as gout.

Sarno-ize it!
Read chapter 4 of Dr. Sarno's "The Divided Mind." Also chapers 3, 4 and 5 in Dr. Scott Brady's "Pain Free For Life" are very important.

I did not have back surgery, but that big toe of mine on the left side does get numb and tingly at the tip and drives me batty. It does go away.

It was real bad earlier this year w/ the onset of all my symptoms, and has come and gone since. I have forgotten about it till this post, so thanx, I expect it any day now

Thanks, guys.

This just confirms to me that it is TMS. Especially since right after posting that message it stopped and didn't bother me at all last night. Reading your posts helps.
