Well, I certainly retract what I said earlier. The detailed symptoms sound a lot worse than just numbness.
Dave, I think the confusion here is that a pain specialist suggested the injection and the neuro diagnosed CES.

If they are confident this is CES then it is a medical emergency and unless there is something Mando is not telling us, he should have already been in surgery. If not he is risking permanent nerve damage.
Yes, sometimes things are not TMS.

OK I don't have a penis BUT I had the numbness in the whole seat/butt/upper thigh area and pain in the butt/back. I actually pinched skin between my butt and upper thigh/crotch area and felt NOTHING! Totally numb. Scared? Hell yeah! Turns out it WAS TMS. So TMS CAN cause numbness. After much writing (you people must be sick of hearing me say WRITING by now) feeling came back and pain is gone.
Oh, and before I knew about Sarno I had an xray (Degen disc disease) and then MRI (LARGE herniated disc). So those diagnoses usually mean NOTHING.

Sheez. I'll be honest. When I first heard of his symptoms, I thought they were similar to CES but without any pathology it just couldnt be. But when he said he had a 10mm disk herniation and "severe central canal stenosis," I was privately worried this was physical. A 10mm disk herniation is very very large and very unusual for a 17 year old. "severe central canal stenosis" in the presence of numbness in the groin has the hallmarks of early CES.
I didnt say anything because 1) Im not a doctor and 2) Im new to the TMS thing and Im unusre just how far TMS can go.
A year ago I would have told him staright up to see a spinal surgeon. Now, well, my mind spins between TMS and physical and it makes it difficult for me to make up my mind.
If Mando has surgery I hope it works out. I dont even know how long he's had these symptoms. I believe it is possible that the mind can increase blood flow even to overcome 10mm disk herniations (whihc shoudl resorb eventually), but sometimes when your penis goes numb,...and if he is losing bowel motor control I think this may be a no brainer.

Ok, I had cauda equina syndrome and no neurosurgeon would make you wait for surgery. First of all, the MRI would be conclusive. I saw mine-there is no doubt-the neurosurgeon showed me the dark areas that should be light. I could not walk at all and the pain was excruciating until it went numb. I would highly doubt you have CES as it is a medical emergency. I had surgery the same day I was diagnosed. You wouldn't be diagnosed on the basis of your incontinence.
