I'm sure you are all aware that this is the only forum of its kind on the whole wide internet! At least that I can find. Perhaps the others are well hidden?
This is the 5th day of severe TMS in my lower back. Reading Sarnos books doesn't help anymore. I'm picking up tips here and there on how to rid oneself of stress and anger. I find all the posts interesting but catch myself glossing over any that seem to deal with symptoms I haven't yet experienced myself. I am afraid once I read in detail about someones pain, my brain will store that knowledge and the symptoms will develop in me!! Am I the only one that thinks this?? Has that happened to anyone here?

I'm sorry for what your'e going thru.
I can't help but feel you have to change your name. I'ts just a constant reminder. You had to use CAPS too? |

I haven't gotten the knack of this posting system yet!! I've been programmed for emails too long!!
Thank you for your response. It made me laugh and also made me think you are probably right. I might have to change the username. For now though, it suits me well. ;-) |

If it is of any help, I had severe back pain that was diagnosed from MRI's as spinal stenosis for several months. I had sciatica pain also.
I read Dr. Sarno's Healing Back Pain, decided that it was TMS, emotionally induced, painful but harmless, and it went away in a few weeks. That was seven years ago and it never came back.
By the way, Fred Amir's book is listed on the cover page for this website. It was a big help. He also has a forum.

Hi Allen, Knowing it isn't real no longer helps me. You don't think there might come a time for some of us to seek ways in which to express the emotions we have for so long suppressed and continue to suppress? If reading the book once has healed you for 7 years (and counting, right) that is awesome for you! For 5 years I thought it was that easy too! Suddenly it isn't that easy. Just experiencing waaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much stress right now. Reading just isn't geting through to me as it once did. I WANT it to - maybe Freds book will help. Thanks for the tip! |

ouchy, your'e all over the place, which is great don't get me wrong. But your name is even worse when you look at the front page and see in CAPS all your threads, and it says OUCH THE PAIN all the way down the front page of the TMS help forum. I think its sending a bad message to newbies and us too. |

mamaboulet is quite catchy, so i say that aloud. But its because I like it. Makes me think of New Orleans. Sorry to have chosen a name that bothered people. I don't fully understand the reasoning? We can read about every ailment under the sun here! But rather than offend, the name has been changed. Just FOR U skizzik!

My real name sounds kinda NOLA also. Kat Fish Lee (I kid you not). Lots of people call me mamaB, which is also easy to say. FORU is funny. I first read it as for-oooh. |

Ha! Love it!! Either Fish was a family surname or your parents had a sense of humor and never thought about the teasing that might occur. I'm glad to see you AND your name survived!

there ya go! all it takes is some little reminder to throw some of us recoverer's into a flare up. There was a member here named Diskpain, and it was suggessted that it be dropped, and he/she did.
Sarno says you have to forget what those scans show (once you rule out the serious) and move on. I feel that your old name would be synonymous to reading your MRI report every 2 hrs. Outta sight, outta mind! |

To refer to the original post...
I wouldn't run away from reading about other mindbody symptoms. You have to embrace all of them, and embrace all of their causes as emotionally induced, and until you do that, the fear and insecurity will linger, and so, too, will your susceptibilty to these symptoms.
I'd say: embrace the symptoms. They are friendly reminders that you have emotional growth to do it, and the only way to do it is to start questioning. Slowly, over time, you will unlock them. Just keep questioning, and welcome the symptoms that are always there to remind you and keep you on track in your emotional proress. |

Good point! I hadn't quite thought of it that way. Perhaps a compromise within myself for now - I will only read about ailments I have had heard of before. Baby steps until I feel stronger and more committed.
