...and can already feel an improvement. I just woke up this morning without really tight, stiff neck and shoulder muscles for the first time in weeks. I didn't expect to feel any improvement that quickly.

I'm still worried though as I'm still experiencing pain in my right hand/wrist area. It happens when I flex my thumb back away from my hand towards my arm. I get a pain that goes across the web of my hand and towards my wrist. Thing is, it comes and goes throughout the day (this has been the case since it started a couple of weeks ago). Sometimes I flex my thumb and feel nothing, other times it really hurts.

Could this be TMS? If it was due to oxygen deprivation, then wouldn't it hurt without me flexing my thumb? The fact that I really feel it when I flex the thumb makes me think there must be something structurally wrong as the action of moving the hand irritates a nerve or tendon or something.

Also, if the neck/shoulder pain eased off after reading the book, wouldn't the hand pain have gone as well? It seems weird to get relief in only one area.

Sounds like a pure case of tms. The fact that you are worried some horrable thing is happening is a main tool of tms: fear! Don't let is scare you. Keep reading and use this site,as you have alot to learn about your illogical uncoincious brain. You have it on the run and you will build confidence as you go along, you will learn how to control it. Thanks for the reply Paul. Pain does scare me and I think fear is hard to let go. Will make a real effort though. Reading comments on here is a real help. It's comforting to know other people go through it and get over it.

as far as would'nt it hurt when you wern't flexing your thumb...thats like someone w/ tms saying my back doesn't hurt till I bend over and use it. So, no, I would think it's logical your thumb could possibly only hurt in a flexed position.

Yes, that's a good analogy. Never underestimate the power of the mind I guess! Maybe I expect pain when I flex my thumb now so that's why it happens sometimes.

Suggest you re-read the portions of the book that pertain to conditioning and symptom substitution. Your experience is not uncommon.
