I'm curious: in your guys' experience, is original cause of TMS usually something that happened or was happening right at the time the pain started, or has there been a period between the cause of the pain and its onset? Or does it vary?

I'm trying to think back to when I started having pain to figure out possible causes, but I'm not sure how far back before it started I ought to be looking.

Dr. Sarno says to his patients, "Tell me about your childhood." A lot of the repressed anger in our "reservoir of rage" can come from childhood abuse or neglect, which caused anger which we had to repress for our survival.

But current stressful situations can cause it to overflow into pain. So both areas need to be explored.

I agree with Ralph..And I would add that Life Pressures contribute to the rage as well..The time delay can surely vary, it has in my life..Lately, I think most of my pain has to do with current life stressors and decisions I am putting off..Dr. Sarno talks about our fear of getting older and mortality, in general, as adding to the reservoir of repressed rage and other feelings..It is a multi-faceted disorder..
Blessings,
Karen
