Have any of the ladies posting on this forum ever notice an increase in their intensity of PMS or perimenopausal symptoms that they can attribute to TMS?

Nora,

I'm on the fence with this one. About half the time I believe that my increase (over the past several years) in these symptoms are just TMS trying to distract me once again. But on a particularly bad day I am completely convinced that my hormones are are making me feel achy and crazy! I would also like to hear from more women on this subject, because perimenopause is a fact of life.

Hi Ladies:

I get anxious and my pain symptoms increase every month. I am over 40 and I don't know your ages. But if it is over 35, I would lean more towards hormones than TMS. No matter which, it's the pits!

I always dismiss those all too familiar symptoms as "just PMS-ing". If they are indeed connected with TMS, I think dismissing them as "normal" should foil the mind's strategy of distraction. But the unconscious mind, being a clever thing (in most of us at least), might produce PMS symptoms at any time and try to make us worry about them as "not normal". Since my back pains eased, I've had a few random bouts of severe anxiety and irritability, like "super PMS-ing". But I knew my brain was playing its little tricks on me, so I dismissed them as "just TMS-ing". It only lasted until the pain shifted to my butt and leg.

I am 47 and have used natural hormone replacement therapy compounded especially for me, for about 5 years now. I no longer have hot flashes, my skin is clear, and I don't have alot of the symptoms I was getting, and only started to get as I aged. To take the HRT I have to keep a strict log of days/cycles. I can usually tell if I'm getting close to my 26th day as I get some joint pain and fatigue, which quickly clears up once I start.

Having said that, I think because of what I know about TMS has helped with the symptoms and I don't find them quite as severe or intense. I don't believe it is ALL TMS, because sometimes I'll feel achy and fatigued and wonder why, only to get my period 2 weeks early. So my mind wasn't telling me "oh it's the 26th day of your cycle so you should be achy & tired", my body and/or hormones just did it when the time was right.

Anymore, I am programmed to immediately ask myself, "What's going on in your life right now?" that might be causing a TMS flare up.

I will say this . . . perimenopause is a b*tch!

My PMS headaches went away when I tried the TMS approach on them.

Hillary,
That makes me wonder about Period cramps - always get them on the first two days. I am 36 and wonder if this is just long standing conditioned reaction during my periods. Of course, not everything is PMS but I bet alot of things are!

Some of my PMS symptoms have eased after learning about TMS. Right now I am driving myself through some emotional history. It's dragging up all kinds of crap. I had intense, awful psychotic PMS and my period came quite early for me.

I don't know if it's a chicken or egg thing. I'm dealing with issues which have a bunch of supressed anger and hurt though. Something in the begining of my relationship with my husband in which I ignored my feelings and instincts and allowed an "affair" of sorts to continue. It ended a couple of years ago but the feelings are far from dealt with and there's a lot of residual stuff in my mind. Part of me is angry at myself for either not drawing the line to stop it, not leaving the relationship and part of me is still pissed at him for being blind to what was going on and letting it continue.

It actually is pretty bad. He says he's loosing faith in me and my ability to deal with it. The relationship with the ex is over now but it's been "over" before. I actually do trust that this time he realized the threat it was. I would like to throw the switch and say okay gone forgotten let's move on! This went on for 19 years.

I have also utilized natural, compounded HRT for my symptoms. Unfortunately, it was not helpful (also very expensive). This is the 50% side of me that believes my symptoms are TMS. I do not believe in using the synthetic hormones, so I suppose I will never know whether or not they would help. Hopefully since I am in my late 40s, this "ordeal" will be over soon! Anyone know of a female TMS physician?
