Hello All,

Can folks who have read Fred Amir's book "Rapid Recovery from Back and Neck Pain" offer some feedback on it? I've just been reading comments about it on Amazon and many people say that it offers more specific advice on how to deal with TMS than Dr. Sarno's books. How is it different/same as Sarno's?

Thanks in advance.

Moose, Amir's book is his personal program he came up with after reading Dr. Sarno's Healing Back Pain. Amir gives his story and how he basically became disabled with a host of ailments - back, knees, arm pain ETC., the list goes on. In the book he gives a short overview of TMS and Dr. Sarno's approach.

Amir then describes how he used self-talk, visualization, goal setting, a reward system, and positive thinking- to name a few, to increase his recovery. These ideas are how it is slightly different from Sarno's books. The book is good, I took pieces from it and use them today. Some of it I didn't like, but Amir seems like he wrote the book with intentions of giving people a program they could follow for TMS. I'd buy it and read it a couple times, Lots of useful stuff. Good Luck.

The book was interesting buy not helpful to me. The emotions causing my TMS are too strong to simply be wisked away with the suggestings that Mr Amir suggests. I can imagine it working for others however.

Just out of curiosity, what are (or were) your symptoms, and what have you found to be the most effective methods for controlling them?

Thanks!

My symptoms are something between fibromyalgia (w/o the sleep problem) and whole body myofascail tightness causing RSI in arms.

The problem is severe infant/toddler trauma caused by a vaccine reaction and subsequent cognitive problems through childhood. TMS I now believe is caused by repressed rage at what happened to me and a fear that that rage will come out with respect to my parents. The fear I believe is responsible for the symptoms. I'll soon post a longer reply to your questions since I have recently discovered the fear and have been working on expressing anger to my parents which brings up the fear and a modulations of symptoms.
