Welcome ekdek,

As a start people usually say to read Dr John Sarno's books but if you want to know more before you get hold of his book(s) then a good summary is on:

http://www.tarpityoga.com/tms.html

TMS is not a yoga therapy so don't get misled by the name of the website, it's just a good summary and links hosted by one person who has been helped by Sarno's discovery of TMS.

Really worthwhile too is reading the customer reviews of Sarno's books on Amazon by people with amazing recovery stories.

Also read the TMSHelp link of this site.

Also you can use the search function on this website to look up specific topics (eg cortisone or steroid) to see what has been talked about on this before.

There's an an informal system here of tagging recovery stories as "successstory" (no quote marks) so you can search on those too. It won't pick all of the successes up as it's only been done recently.

Hope that helps you to get started. You'll find people on this site more willing to help if you are prepared to do the "homework" of reading Sarno's theory before you start posting specific questions. You may be able to borrow it from your local library.

Just a note about cortisone ... maybe it's helpful under certain circustances, but for me, it proved to be an unsuccessful way of dealing with chronic heel/foot pain -- over a series of several weeks I had 3 cortisone shots and saw little to no improvement ... (the shots if anything, added to the pain syndrome) -- learning about and being open to the TMS point of view helped changed things slowly but surely ... it's a good idea to take Tunza's advice, read previous posts, discover new points of view ... See if it feels right for you. Best of luck.
