When using a computer I am finding that for the first hour or so of use i still getting some discomfort and soreness in my forearms as before but if i keep going and persist once i have been typing for several hours it doesn't hurt nearly as much and i can even get to the point where it is barely noticeable. But then tomorrow it all begins again. Weird. Does this sound familiar to anbody?
I dont think i am really focusing on it - thats the real difference. I used to dwell on it and take regular breaks etc which i guess now was only reinforcing it's dominance over me - but now i recognise it is hurting, reaffirm my belief that it is psychologically based and keep going. Fingers crossed this improvement continues. :)

Definitely a common occurrence, and one that lends support to TMS as a cause of pain. If the pain is truly because of "repetitive stress" or structural problems in the hands or forearms, it should get worse, not better as you continue using them! Sounds like you are on the right track... |

Yes, you are on the way to recovery.
I was just like you. Conscious of breaks, always trying to type slowly and efficiently so no keystrokes wasted. It was all my mind. Now, when I get pain, I say "Gee, I wonder what's going on with me psychologically that is causing this pain." Even if I don't have time to pursue that thought, it's like I've set the process in motion of causing that emotion to be released.
Later, I'll think about the incident. and realize I had forgotten all about the pain.
Congrats on your progress.

As long as you think about the pain then the TMS has the upper hand. Stop dwelling on it and move on. Occupy your time and energy onm something else. Also, don't say you think you are getting better, say "I know I am getting better," and believe it with everything within yourself.
I myself stopped journalling altogether and just got on with my life and in my worst time I could barely walk. I have seen at least a 40% reduction in my symptoms within a few weeks when I did this. |

All,
Went to the gym yesterday and did weights for the first time in about 6 months. Apart from the 'good' soreness that would be expected i am very happy to report that my forearm pain did not flare up as i had expected. I am starting to think that the concept of "challenging / facing the pain" that some members of this forum reccommend might be working..
