Sarno and many other studies have indicated that disc degeneration is a normal part of the aging process and does not cause pain. If she has pain it is most likely unrelated to the disc and instead tension related.

Disc herniation or bulges, for the vast majority of cases at least, do not cause pain. Dr. Sarno has firmly established this as has others. This has been discussed many times on this board also. Many people who have this condition fully recover as a result of Dr. Sarno's treatment program. Remember, the brain will choose an area in your body where an abnormality exists so that you think that source of your pain is physical. It is a clever trick and one which has been re-inforced by the mainstream medical establishment. The treatment program consists of having the person think about what is going on in their lives rather than what is going on in their body. So, tell us what is going on in your life and how whould you describe your personality?
