Well, I am still new here and to be honest still have conflicting feelings about TMS. I have no doubt about fitting the profile but then...how come physio helps?

Anyway, guess that is just to let you know to take the following with a grain of salt... based on the advice here I thought I would try to identify things that I could be angry about. I found it very interesting that I could bring back old feelings about long "forgotten" events just like that! However, in a couple of cases, where I remember being furiously angry for MONTHS at something, and ranting and raving and finally getting over it- absolutely no feelings now. I remember being angry but can hardly imagine how I could have felt. So it seems that I had managed to work through anger in those cases, but in the cases where I had repressed it for some reason, it is still there.

The reason for repression was usually not to appear weak or not to offend others, definitely in the cases where I "expressed" it I would upset others with the strength of my anger. I guess the key is to be able to express it in an effective manner. But then perhaps if you are not repressing, it doesn't build up so much.

any thoughts?

Because returning to your normal routine (exercise instead of "resting your 'injury'") is good for you in general. Unfortunately, PT will not cure your TMS and is treating the symptom not the problem.

You hit the nail on the head: the feelings are repressed.

It may take weeks, months or physchoanalysis to uncover the root cause of your feelings/anger.

Some people are able to revisit / replay their past events and bring these feelings to the foreground. For other people it takes longer, or they are unable to do it on their own without outside help.

Take care, -Stryder

Hi Juno,

Its your unconscious that has repressed your anger not your conscious. You may never find out what your unconscious is angry about. Just be aware that your unconscious has stored a lot of anger.

Try this. Repeat to yourself over and over " My unconscious is in a blinding rage and its not my fault" Say this to yourself over and over while your taking your daily walk, while meditating, or at night while laying in bed just before you go to sleep.

The trick is to make your conscious aware that your unconscious is very angry. Any time I have a flair up of some kind of pain I start repeating this phrase to myself over and over so I can convince my conscious that my pain is psychological not physical.

It works for me. Give it a try.

Good luck.

This is truly a key point. I blamed myself for years (before I became Sarno aware) that I was "broken" and unable to recover. Once you stop blaming yourself for this condition then it becomes a whole lot easier to move on in your recovery.

Take care, -Stryder
