One of the fun fringe benefits of having my consciousness raised regarding TMS is the fact that I don't have to bother stretching any more after a run...

The really ironic part is, now that I've given up trying, I'm actually more flexible than I was when I was stretching all the time..

For the first time in years I'm touching my toes with ease...

Go figure...

You just made me realize that I haven't bothered to stretch for the last few months either! I can't notice any difference, compared to stretching every run

I know recent studies say stretching doesn't prevent injury, but intuitively, that doesn't feel right. I've been running on/off for about 27 yrs and I've stretched and not stretched and stretching has always worked better for me. I can't prove that it prevented any injuries, but it certainly keeps me more flexible. And I don't mind doing it; it relaxes me.

I don't think stretching is a bad thing, unless you're doing it before you run. Those studies you talk about also say that the injury rate is actually higher amongst those who stretch before warming up.

When I said I don't stretch anymore, I meant in a regimented or formal way. When I'm done with a run I usually stretch out my calf muscles briefly, maybe touch my toes once or twice, and maybe even reach around back and grab an ankle so I can stretch out my quads..I do that because it feels good, and it only takes two seconds..but my days of stretching for fifteen minutes and trying without success to become measurably more flexible are over..
