Hi guys,
A sufferer in Sydney here. Tendonitis in both arms the last 2 years. I've still been typing 8 hrs/day through it all (I'm the only income with wife & 2 kids), & have been very scared about my career a couple of times. Found Sarno's book through word of mouth, a friend of a friend who was cured. If I didn't know them I never would have read it (it sounds like american self-help quackery until you get into it). That was 3 weeks ago. I haven't found any overall pain reduction in my day to day work so far, but I've been fearlessly lifting my baby son at home (8kg, about 24 pounds I think) and have had a couple of times where, in the midst of a bout of pain, I've managed the right frame of mind and the pain vanished instantly. So I'm convinced, but I imagine I still have a ways to go. My wife is keen to use my newfound focus on the mind to get me to see a psych guy and address some old boarding school issues. I only want to do this if I can find a mindbody doctor, otherwise they might talk me out of Sarno's technique. Does anyone know of any mindbody physicians in Australia?

Hello Kalor... Congratulations!!
I think being convinced is half the battle. I'm at the beginning of my journey too, it's scary, exciting & challenging huh? I'm even noticing a massive mental conflict going on at the thought of life with no pain, it's hard to percieve and yet you're so hungry for it...lol..anyway I'm digressing.
I can't offer any recommendations I'm afraid Kalor, I'm searching for the right person myself. But what I did feel I wanted to say was that, you will not be put in a position where you have to justify what you believe in, or at least it would be bad practice if you did.
Normally you would have an initial consultation to give you the opputunity to state exactly what it is you wish to deal with, in your case the baording school issues and emotions that you have relating to them, he/she in return can then decide whether or not that they are in a position to help you. You could say that you felt that past emotional issues are still playing a large part in the way that you conduct your life today and elaborate no further than that.
Or you may wish to share more. Send this one out to the universe and trust that when the time is right you will be led to the person that's right for you. That person will then create the right environment to accomodate you on your journey, safely and comfortably.
Possibly someone will reply to this posting and give you the name of the therapist that's right for you, if not...like me, we'll have to trust and wait, but it will happen.
Strength and Courage on your journey...Jane |

Hi, kalor. Don't get too hung up on emotional issues from your past. They might just be convenient diversions. The real issue here is probably the immense responsibility of suppporting three dependents. I went through it myself for about 14 years, and I suffered every kind of TMS in the bargain. I didn't discover Sarno until much later.
You're on the right track, at least. Keep at it. Don't let TMS ruin the best years of your family life.

Same goes for me as well. Due to hardships in my childhood, I put an enormous amount pressure on myself to be a good provider for my family.
Take care, -Stryder |
