Hi folks :)
I started having severe back pain a few months ago... discovered TMS and it's pretty much gone, now (woohoo!). But - a few days ago the palms of my hands and soles of my feet started itching like crazy. No physical symptoms - no hives, or rash, or even redness - just intense itching, especially at night.
Any ideas as to whether this might be a TMS variant, or something I should take to a doctor? I'd rather not unless I have to (take it to a doctor, that is), because of the chance they'll find /something/ with a long Latin name to call it, just because that's what they do.
Thanks! |

dr sarno says that 50% of all skin issues is a tms equivalent.
i have a spot on my left forearm that itches constantly since seeing dr sarno. i also have, on some nights, itching over my whole body when i try to go to sleep. neither show any hives, etc
no doubt both of these things are a rebelling brain to my treatment attempt

I too had the itching, primarily at night when I hopped into bed to go to sleep. The area around the hands and feet were the worst. This was before I knew anything about TMS too. Allegra worked for me, but now I believe it was a placebo because I decided to go off the Allegra, had the itching, but was determined not to take the Allegra and it went away. This was also before I knew about TMS, so in a way I was already using my mind to get it to go away I just didn't know what was actually going on.
Interestingly, now that I'm aware of TMS, I get a spot on my right forearm that itches now and then when I'm trying to make my back pain go away. But now I know why and I can usually get it to go away. The back pain still likes to come and go a lot though. Considerably harder to get rid of for me. |

I, too, must admit to the "neurogenic itching" of TMS. My first symptom (as an adult--I'm convinced that the "growing pains" and tendinitis of the knees I had as a kid were probably kiddie TMS...) was back pain, but a year or so after conquering that I began to get this awful, itchy rash on my feet. I associated it with wearing certain shoes, so saw a dermatologist, who said I was allergic to the shoes. It was so itchy at times I would be up all night, and could understand how an itch could make someone consider suicide!
Naturally, there was no real consistency between the shoes and the rash, and I finally realized it would come before exams, when I was having relationship issues, etc. I eventually convinced myself (without any help from the dermatologist...) that it was anxiety related and it went away.

Thanks for the replies! I was pretty sure it was TMS-related, but it's just so darn weird, yanno?
But hey, I'll take itching - even this sort of 'this is how it felt to have chicken pox' itching - over back pain, any day of the week. |
