 Concept of getting mad at your brain?

It is possible that by talking to and "getting mad" at your brain, a concept that Dr. Sarno and many of his patients say is a useful tool, in reality we are "venting" suppressed rage and anger? That it's really a method of helping us actually feel our feelings instead of expressing them in terms of physical pain? I tried this for the first time recently and it appears to work, but not for the same reasons given in the book.

Steve the comment you made about being able to express your emotions outwardly instead of suppressing them, causing inner rage, anger, fear anxiety is correct.

IMO doctor Sarno meant the term to “get mad at your brain” was to say; “I know what tricks your up to.” THE DISTRACTION “I realize that that my brain is capable of suppressing some deep rooted emotions which result in manifestations and I AM ON TO IT” “Your not going to get away with this anymore, “I caught you -- you Sob”.

Personally besides being mad for doing this to ourselves, I don’t agree with any anger technique with TMS maintenance work. I believe it is counter- productive and ANGER is the thing I am trying to RID myself of. DISCOVERING why? I have anger and RAGE and getting it out to DEAL with it, is the most productive recovery technique.

It helps convert the inner emotional pain to the surface so you can acknowledge them and rationalize with them. In return consciously deal with them, converting emotions from the physical pain.

If you can expose these emotions and change your thought pattern about them, you will have success with applying the other work of Sarno.

Thinking about the way you feel along with Journaling and Exposing your emotions makes a channel to then deal with the things in life which consume us. Letting go of the anger and rage ( I would call it making peace with it) and exposing inner emotions is venting your pressure tank (like a safety valve is put in place on an operating boiler system). This is designed as a safety feature, especially into a pressurized system, so is the way you where wonderfully designed to be able to express and handle your emotions.

Sarno carefully states that TMS is not an expression of repressed emotion (which was his original thinking) but a distraction from the rage.

I do not believe that by "getting mad" at your brain for inducing TMS symptoms that you are doing anything to tap into repressed rage. On the other hand, if you vent your anger at a present situation (such as screaming to yourself in the car after getting off the phone with your wife who pissed you off) I believe it can be very healthy and prevent that present anger from being repressed and added to the pool of rage.
