i am in a lot of pain again the last few days, from my shoulder-neck-arm tms (which i am certain is tms and will not get it operated on) and the need-a-chiropractor-neck-stiffness-headache-dizziness pain (which i keep wavering back and forth about seeing a chiro- i know its not tms-correct, but i also know that THAT part of my pain will go away if i get adjusted, placebo or not).
i seem to have days im convinced to ride out the 'chiro' thing, and days where i waver. i have actually seen the chiro 2 times in 4 wks since seeing sarno (still better than the 2-3 times a week i used to go?) when i cant take it anymore. sarno said to me that going to the chiro could be 'detrimental' but somehow i havent been fully able to believe the tms for the 'chiro-can-relieve type' pain like i can for the other 'neuro-screamingly intense' pain. i called sarno monday, and since he just got back from vaca he's backed up to get back to me.
i need some help, prayers, encouragement, whatever. its been a really crappy day in many ways and im sure that is part of the wavering and fear going on in my head
thanks for listening (reading?)

I had a minor relapse the last while, annoying neck and shoulder pain that I have not been able to relate to anything in my life. Rather than physical treatment, I took pain medication, strong stuff, and after a week, it felt like my body forgot what it started over, physical, or mental. i debated going to the chiro, etc., but I am glad I didn't.Strong medications(ie:codiene)block off the pain at the brain receptors, so even tms pain is blocked. A temporary fix, but useful. |

This is evidence that your mind is still not firmly planted in the TMS theory. You still do not believe it.
You must stop all physical treatments. Frankly, it is an insult to Dr. Sarno that you continue to go to the chiropractor.
Believe me, I know it is difficult, but it is absolutely essential. You must believe that chiropractic adjustments have absolutely no theraputic value. How could they? The source of your pain is psychological. |

Hi Lee.
A few years into being totally recovered,I had the Mother of all relapses...My neck hurt so bad I had to keep a towel around it so I could manually turn my neck when people talked to me(pretty funny picture huh?)
Anyways...I was certain it was TMS and had a list a mile long of what it could be,but that didn't make the pain go away.I went to a chiro for a MASSAGE just for some temporary respite(it felt good when someone just dug around in there)..He said he HAD to X-ray me,and I aquiesced under the condition that he neither show me the X-rays OR tell me what he 'thought' was wrong with me...."just shut up and dig"
Just being in the waiting room with all those pictures of stuff actually worsened the condition...he was a friend of a friend,so I went ahead with the deal.It did nothing, and I of course knew why...it wasn't the problem.
I hate recommending narcotics,as I was once hopelessly addicted to them, but alltherunner has a good point.Taking a painkiller deals with the pain without exposing yourself to the structural mythology people.
Maybe go to a GP and get some Vikes or codeine.Actually,I just had a root canal, and being an ex-narco took tramadol for the worst part of the pain(maybe twice)...the stuff actually worked, and there is NO chance for addiction,as it isn't any fun(like Morpheine,Demerol,Hydro,Oxy,etc)
We all went through a transition period between our old beliefs and our new ones.Just keep the Mental part of the Battle focused and the rest will sort itself out,but by no means would even Sarno expect you to be a Martyr...
-peace

I have had what I thought was every type of tms pain imaginable. I never had any neck pain til last month. It was like tms took up residence in my head and surrounding area. Headache, stiff neck, dizziness, sinus and mouth sores. I have had them all in the past except for stiff neck. Being a devout Sarno believer, I paid no attention to any of them. Each lasted a day or two, except for the mouth sore that always takes about a week to run it's course. I am under alot of pressure right now and I know that's what all these symptoms are about. Needless to say , they are all gone. You are not a true believer yet and so you are not quite able to have any control over your symptoms. Listen to Dave. I'll tell you what is still the most helpful to me is writing things down. I have had a very dramatic 2 days. Things have happened that I knew would really upset me so I started writing immediately. My method is just stream of conscious of everything that really irritates my about a person or situation. Guess what? No pain whatsoever. |
