Good Day.
I really cannot think of a better place to be asking this. Since TMS originates from the mind, the people dealing with it need to learn how to control things up there. My question is this.
I have basically a problem with forgetting and letting go of things. Right now there is a memory like stuck inside my brain. This is something i do not like to think about, but it is something i have come to terms with. The thing is the memory sticks in place at all times, no matter what i'm doing or what i'm thinking about, a part of my brain is always focussed on this one memory. I've tried many things already to try and get it out, so i can move on with my life. I don't need to be constantly remembered about it. I have accepted it, I am no longer angry about it, I have forgiven it,
so, then why does the memory stay active? I've had these issues before i've never been able to understand how to deal with it. Can any of you give me some advice on how to do this?
Greetings Mike |

This sounds like a component of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, what Dr. S labels a TMS-equivalent, rather than continuing some act over and over, you are doing it with a thought. But as always, the mental issues are more complicated when it comes to "how" to get rid of it. Try all the TMS techniques, but I think this is where the mindfulness techniques described in "Back Sense" can help. Try to bring your mind into the present, concentrate on breathing, relax and let the thought pass. If it comes back, start focusing on breath again, etc. It is a mind-created phenomenon, so you shouldn't worry about it, it will go away. |

Omg... You may actually have a point. That this is also TMS. I hadn't even thought about it before. I should read up on that, thanks Johnny.
More advice is of course still welcome,
Thanks so far. |

How long ago was the "event" of which you write?
I know from my own experience (pre-Sarno's books, anyway), it literally took 2 months, I believe, to stop replaying something I didn't even witness (but affeced me greatly). I think this is an area in which TMS people differ - how long an event retains a hold, thus affecting recovery time.
