Susan, If you haven't read Fred Amir's book, I highly recommend it since it gives the detailed "how's" that I found missing in Sarno's books. Amazom.com carries his book. |

Susan- Can you think of anything going on in your life at this time that is really bothering you? Anxiety is just a tms equivalent and can be overcome if you will work on the psychology of what is really bothering you. I had a lingering sinus infection that caused alot of eye pain and pressure. When I began working on Dr. Sarnos theories for my back pain, my eye problems, anxiety , etc. all went away at the same time. I had been using a nasal spray every day for the sinus stuff. I haven't used it in months. I promise you it is all related and you are obviously prone to tms, so begin to use the healing skills you learned with your last episode. Most of all, try not to be frightened by the symptoms, it will just make them worse. Tell them to get lost and try to think about what is really bothering you. Good luck to you! |

You can't just say it's tms. You have to really know it's tms. Logically, what else would it be? I think when we've had a tough time and things even out and become good, as life always does, we sometimes keep looking around every corner for something bad to happen. The problem with that is you never really enjoy the good stuff because you're always waiting for the bad stuff. Relax and enjoy your good relationship. This is the good stuff. Tell your tms to get lost. You don't have time for it. |

Good post Susie, I feel like that a lot, waiting for the other shoe to drop. I think TMS work helps one learn how to be in the moment--to enjoy the good and combat the irrational bad. |

True, but the "good stuff" in life is very often the source of repressed rage. TMS comes from the things we don't know are really bothering us inside, in one way or another.
On the one hand it is exciting to go through major life changes such as a new relationship and child. What is there to be anxious about? Life is great! Right? Not exactly.
Well, you'd be surprised to learn what's really going on with the child inside you. The child is angry about these major life changes, no matter how positive they are. The child is afraid that something might go wrong. The child is angry about the loss of freedom and independence that the new baby will bring.
The fact is there are lots of irrational emotions going on beneath the surface. Most people would say, "That's crazy, this is a great time in my life and there is no way that I am harboring ill feelings about it." They would be wrong. We are human, and we should acknowledge that these irrational feelings exist, and that TMS symptoms such as anxiety are present to distract us from them.
Susan: if you get anxious, blow the imaginary whistle. Say to yourself STOP! I know what is going on. Let's calm down and experience the feelings of this very moment, and stop thinking about the past or future. Then take a deep breath turn your thoughts towards your emotions. If you do this over and over, every time you experience symptoms, eventually you will recondition yourself to treat anxiety in a totally different light. |
