Hi,

I was wondering if anybody had advice about insurance plans, specifically mental health benefits. The psychiatrist Dr. Sarno's office recommended charges $185 per session, and my current insurance has a lifetime cap of $1000.

Also, to people who have been seeing a therapist, how often do you visit him/her? And how long did you continue therapy? I realize this will vary a lot, and need not apply to my situation...

I'm just trying to get an idea of whether I should worry myself sick about trying to find better insurance. To make things worse, I'm a foreign student in the US, and the all the rules seem doubly complicated and restrictive

Best,
ndb

It's through my work, and those sort of plans are all negotiated very differently. And I just looked again it's actually 20 visits per year.

Thanks for the reply, Pendoreille. Wow, so you foot most of the bill on your own!

By the way, can I ask what insurance company it is? I'm asking because most companies seem to have a 'lifetime cap' instaed of allowing some amount per year.

Thanks,
ndb

Insurance coverage just varies a lot between plans. I don't think most insurance covers a lot of therapy. I have a good insurance, and I get 8 visits annually. I see my therapist once a week.

Wondering about the lack of replies...did I breach some kind of etiquette...or just that nobody has any input on my question?

thanks,
ndb
