Me and my friend had a huge argument over sarno! i gave a damn good argument to on how its not a theory this is a fact this is happening its a real disorder.. he states i am a psychology major and graduated there is no way... so i started going into the whole everything heals why are people still in pain it makes no sense (by the way he has never read the book) so i told him not to argue with me until he reads it but honestly i got so mad that he didnt believe me that when i see him again i need a few facts and encouraging things to make him understand..i dont care that he doesnt believe me but i want to know what i can do or show him that sarnos right! help me

yeah i mean i wanted him to believe in sarno because by him not believing it made me upset because if he did it would of just reenforced the positive... but he also did not read any of his books so how can you make that kind of judgement on something that you know nothing about.

I believe that most tms people find others' lack of belief intolerable because it serves to reinforce our own (conscious or unconscious) doubts. I think that it is an evolutionary consequence to associate pain with physical, and that although I certainly believe in Sarno's theory, it is simply counterintuitive. That is why so many have to struggle to accept it.

So, much like how people dislike other people who seem to embody qualities that they hate in themselves, I think we find "outsiders'" lack of faith bothersome because it might resonate with the doubts that we ourselves have.

your absolutly right..and since people havent had a twinge of backpain come back that right there to me prooves that Sarno's right. if the pain never went away in almost every patient of sarnos then id question it but this man is curing to many people for him to be wrong.

1 - "All truth passes through three stages: First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident." -- Schopenhauer

2 - your so called friend is a very close minded individual.

THERE IS NO WAY? he must live in lala land. Does he think that we know everything there is to know?

This may not be helpful, but I found it interesting:Eckhart Tolle says in one of his books that the need to be right in an argument, and make the other person wrong, is the ego's fear of death. The egoic mind really thinks it will die if it cannot be right. Sounds odd, but it can explain why the argument is important to both of you.

Hi Jena,

I'm glad you expressed you frustration on the situation. I agree that you have nothing to "prove" to this person, so just let it go and move on.

Take care, -Stryder

Jena,

Here's a good article to show him:
http://www.wholehealthmd.com/news/viewarticle/1,1513,6,00.html

Also you could have him watch the 20/20 segment on Dr. Sarno from 1999, which is here:
http://www.goodnewsbroadcast.com/sarno2020.ram
or Rosie O'Donnell's show here:
http://www.goodnewsbroadcast.com/sarnorosie.ram

But Dave is right:
quote:
Some people cannot and will not ever accept Dr. Sarno's work.
as I well know from trying to get my wife and her enablers to see that she has TMS.

Just prove it to him by conquering your own pain.

Best,
Ralph

i know your right.. it was just so aggravating to me... i know my personality has tms written all over it which sarno told me you cant change the personality but you dont have to to cure tms... my mother think si should be alawyer because i dont let things go .. i know its pretty bad
Dave Posted - 02/18/2006 : 10:20:15
Look inside yourself and figure out why it is so important to convince others.

Then drop the issue. Some people cannot and will not ever accept Dr. Sarno's work.

You cannot debate with a guy about a book unless he reads it first. BTW, always wanting to be right is a TMS type personality.
