I discovered Dr Sarno about a month ago. I am totally on board and believe my foot pain is TMS. About 2 months ago I started having foot pain when getting out of bed in the morning, which would go away after several steps. I have an hour+ drive to work and when I would arrive my feet would hurt whiling walking through the parking lot, usually to go away in a short time. After a couple weeks of this it started to last longer. Not terrible pain, but very bothersome. I did some internet research and was convinced I had planter fashiitis. I started buying different inserts for my shoes, compression socks, message ball along with different stretches. Nothing really changed. My bosses brother who I worked for previously, had horrible back pain and was cured by Dr Sarno's work. My boss reminded me of his brother walking around hunched over for weeks at a time, which I did remember. And told me that he has not had any major back pain since. I was intrigued and immediately bought The Mindbody Prescription. I was fascinated after just a few pages. I have since stopped all thought of it being physical and have given up all the aids and stretching. the pain definitely subsided a bit, but still lingers. I have not done much but read and watch some videos. What other steps should I take. I know Dr Sarno mentions his guide steps to recovery, but I'm not very good at retaining things I read. I also have a history of hypertension and reflux. I recently got my reflux under control via medicine and I'm wondering if the foot pain is a symptom replacement for my reflux.

I had lots of foot and leg pains along with back pain, for me they were both tms. Now I can run without shoes without any aches or pains.

Hi JB,

Congrats on discovering Dr. Sarno.

I used to get muscle spasms bottom of my feet. It was extremely painful. Yours is definitely TMS as it fits the TMS pain pattern.

For acid reflux try aloe Vera juice. 2-3 oz 3 time a day. Look for Lily of Desert on Amazon.

I think your foot pain is most likely TMS as well. First of all, it sounds like you have pain in both feet and it seems highly unlikely that a structurally based form of PF would hit both feet during the same period of time...When I had extremely painful PF in my right foot, I also had the worst pain upon getting out of bed (why?), but it was still bad the whole day. I found that stretching caused extreme pain so I quickly dropped that idea. Perhaps naively, I did buy flat, soft, rubbery inserts for my dress shoes which did take the level of the pain down a notch when walking in those leather shoes. I believe this occurred just because it made the bottom of the shoes feel softer to my foot (my athletic shoes were already soft enough on the bottom). I concluded that the problem was TMS, made sure I didn't do any more stretching, looked for past and current psychological issues that might have contributed to the flare up, did creative imagery of enhanced blood flow to the right foot, and waited it out. It did take roughly 6 weeks to go away, but the pain did totally disappear, and it has been almost 10 years, and the pain has not returned.
