I saw this evening that ABC news will be doing a series on Pain this coming week on the evening news. Dr. Tim Johnson will be involved. I wrote him the following email:
Attn: Dr. Tim Johnson,
In your coverage of pain this week, I hope you will do your listeners the favor of talking about TMS (tension myositis syndrome), and the doctor who developed this mind-body diagnosis, Dr. John E. Sarno. Dr. Sarno is a professor of Clinical Rehabilitation Medicine at the New York University School of Medicine and attending physician at the Howard A. Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine at the New York University Medical Center, and has completely cured thousands of back pain sufferers since 1973 with his mind-body approach. He is the author of Healing Back Pain: The Mind-Body Connection, and The Mindbody Prescription: Healing the Body, Healing the Pain.
He became well known for his approach when he completely and rapidly cured John Stossel, the skeptical host of 20/20 in 1999, after 15 years of back pain so severe he had to lie down on the floor during meetings. This was documented on 20/20, in Prevention Magazine, and at this website: http://www.homestead.com/nprunclub/BACKPAIN.html
Maybe you should consult John Stossel about Dr. Sarno.
Looking forward to your series, Ralph Hyde
Additional emails might get his attention, at NETAUDR@abc.com

I watched the first segment just now on TV on pain. Noticed that everything is centered on pain clinics and treating the symptoms. The last woman who they showed with the acupuncture holes in her forehead said "amazing, absolutely amazing." And all I could say was, yes, but you have to keep going back! What they don't realize is that the pain never goes away, they are just treating the symptom for a day or two, maybe getting a placebo boost and then they're back. Oh well. It's what I expected actually. |
