TMS author Steve Ozanich wrote, "One of the great things I felt Dr. Sarno showed us was a specific personality type, of perfection. Many people cannot sense they are indeed perfection-chasers, and they often deny it. But they are detail-success-afraid-to-fail people, that can't sense it within themselves. Several have said they were shocked to find out they were perfectionists. The vision we have of ourselves may not be true due to superego. We feel we are one thing, when we are really another."
In chapters 16 & 17 (T-Wrecks, The Painful Personali-T & Goodist-itus - Inflammation of the Low Esteem) of his book The Great Pain Deception, Steve focus on how personality is an important factor in TMS and in our overall health. This Tuesday, the call-in discussion group will be reading and discussing these two chapters, further exploring how certain personality traits influence our TMS and our overall health. Phone lines will open half an hour early so you can talk to hosts and early callers. Phone lines will open half an hour early so you can talk to hosts and early callers. Hi, Matthew, I'm new to the forum. Your story is very powerful, and I am impressed by your determination.
The symbolic attack seems to have some similarities to mirror-touch synesthesia/empathy. The difference seems to be that the 'attack' is always painful. In the synesthesia, it can also be very pleasurable. For example, I can witness a someone getting a massage and my body feels the tingling pleasure, particularly on the back of the neck and upper back region, but just as often on the feet (my favorite area!). The downside is witnessing/reading something unpleasant that strikes a chord, causes my body to recoil and create various sensations in response (burning/needles/etc).
http://www.livescience.com/1628-study-people-literally-feel-pain.html Here is one link about it. There are others. They talk about mirror-neurons.
What is your opinion on this?

Lily Rose,
If you are talking about the above referenced story, that story is Steve O's though not mine. I have my own story, although most of what Steve says resonates with me. I have been at this 10 years myself! I make these posts for the TMSwiki where I am a member as well. I am more involved in the chat on Saturdays then the Tuesday sessions (they are past my bedtime). I am very familiar with mirror Neurons. Although I never connected it to my TMS before. The "light bulb" goes on over my head! Thanks for that! And after reading the site you referenced, I was amazed at how much it resonated with me. I try not to even listen to the news!
check out this Ted talk on the same subject

Feel free to email me as I don't check this site as often as I could . : -)

Oh my! One of the comments on this site talked about massage! What an interesting coincidence. Hmm. But we all know there really aren't coincidences. Everything is connected.
Mirror neurons in abundance can be rather challenging.
My mom used to tell me that I was 'too sensitive'. That implied a defect. People tried to toughen me up. It can't be done. Instead, it creates more pain.
What I have learned is not that I'm too sensitive ... it is that too many people are INsensitive.

Hello Im Eric, thats a beautiful poem for sure. Lily Rose , such a pretty name. How are you this Sunday afternoon. Hope all's well with the smile, it sometimes isn't so that's why we have chats to discover what turned your happiness away.
Not that were always happy , no- im talking about something that was always in a dream- maybe a goal- Some type of inner feeling needs wholeness, Relationship needs to be resolved. It might be your connection with nature or your connection with someone or most likely its the connection with ourselves.
All in all we understand a good bit about the mind. ,its where all fear anger and happiness come from ya know- I know the body is very sensitive ground too. WE just have to learn what it is that were unaware of.
The point is we've all lost a feeling of wholeness, a complete destiny unfulfilled. So we learn Dr. Sarnos techniques and lots of other great minds of course. Like Claire Weekes and Abraham Low, John Kehoe, Abraham Hicks which is an entity and many others. If it works and its backed up by science mostly now, well we work it. I don't know how you use faith in a lab test but they have completed em with great numbers. Its more of awareness and an understanding of self and getting back to a relationship with life loosing the focus and the fear through will and self control with visualizations and happiness.
As you can see its a good bit to notice but its basically seeking higher better thought lines and action hourly through out the day. Not expecting a change in a week but letting it come as it wills, and becoming aware of those thought lines and then learning to control your thoughts and behaviors, traits etc.
See its a real way to heal, an avenue most never explore.
Its not about wishes or if I believe better than you, its commitment to do the standard test and apply John Sarno MDs 12 daily reminders to our life. Oh and theirs Aces keys to healing on top of that and a bunch more. If you really want to see most anything get better in your life- well here you are. |

Eric -- .... something that was always in a dream
There are many many keys to unlock so many aspects in our mind. It is almost like a treasure hunt. Find the key. Find the keyhole that it fits within. Like a carnival house, it may lead somewhere, or nowhere at all.
Our many minds are tricksters, creating confusions and frustrations.
Until that moment we realize that truth you just spoke, .... something that was always in a dream.
Faith. Something more than ourselves. Something outside ourselves.
I do believe I am responsible for my actions. I also believe this physical reality is just one aspect of experiencing existence.
Within each of us is a living flame. The flame cannot die, but it can be muffled. The more attention given to that flame, the brighter it becomes, and that joy (the flame) begins to seep into every aspect of our lives.
Happiness is a fleeting emotion, like all emotions. Emotions are a chemical reaction to our thoughts.
That flame, though ... that flame, it is deeper than emotions. It is our true state of Being.
Thank you for the reminders ... we ALL need reminding. The mind likes to snatch our tools away and hide them. Reminding allows us to find those tools again.
The poem -- I found it so many years ago. It struck a chord. I think it is a reflection of us all.

Lily Rose,
You may like "The Shadow Effect" by Deepak Chopra, Debbie Ford and Marianne Williamson. The talk of the collective unconscious which Carl Jung posited over 100 years ago (among other fascinating things).
We are all connected!
