I am dealing with the same issue myself for over 1 year now (see my posts). Mine has improved a lot since I have focused on TMS and stoped seeing physical therapists and doctors and just focused on the mind, but it still hurts during activity like basketball, golf, etc. The worst is if I try to do any weight lifting, it gets very inflamed and hurts for a couple days. I am not sure what to do about it.
I feel like there is an actual injury there and there was TMS too, making it much worse, and I have rid that area of the TMS but the inflammation/tear/whatever is still there. I dont know any other way to explain why it doesnt hurt throughout the day anymore, but only when I play sports or lift weights.
Any ideas?? |

NextAdventure, There is no reason to threaten Tom..He has a good heart and is here trying to help people. He is not trying to diagnose anyone just following the principles of TMS. If you don't agree w/ these principles and ways of approaching healing then perhaps you should re think being here.
sdiddy, All I know is that the body was designed to heal..as Dr. Sarno says we are not so fragile, not made of glass. Our bodies have self healing mechanisms built in by God. Of course we all have injured ourselves at one time or another..but..when an injury continues on far after the 'normal' recovery time than TMS is suspect..:) |

Possessing an intellegent, inquiring mind is a beautiful gift. Skepticism has it's place. However it is interesting to note that despite the fact that such smart people can pick holes and point out countless ways in which a theory is baloney, they have not healed, they have not provided a stunner of a success story. Sometimes you have to get out of your own way. It does well to recognise that it is your mind, your thoughts and perceptions that have created and are maintaining the problem.
Is it more important to heal or be *right*? |

Well my friend N/A Ric,
I have profited immensely from all the free advice I've regurgitated here--and with an additional $2.99 I can purchase a can of the cheap Penn tennis balls--(BTW, I've instructed the US Treasury to transfer my valuable pre-WWII, true copper penny collection, from FT. Knox to the Grand Caymans. Unfortunately this will have the consequence of driving up the cost of purchasing anti-arthritis copper bracelets--as seen on TV--.)
I've consulted with my team of attorneys and we've decided if WE are ever sued for tennis malpractice, we would counter sue on the grounds of HILARITY, demanding a mistrial. BTW, the "humerus" bone, you are referring to, is NOT spelled "HUMOROUS"--but it is in close proximity to the FUNNY BONE, perhaps leading to your confusion. Be careful you and "yourselves" are not TORTING, by way of illiterary medical NEGLIGENCE. It would be wise at this juncture to heed the admonition of my goof friend, and fellow tennis player, Samuel Clemens: "Be careful of what you read in a medical book, you may die of a misprint." Have a chat with your editors, they may be overdoing the medical maryjane.
As an aside, and due to your generous warning, it made me wonder if the Good Doctor had ever been sued for medical malpractice and the outcomes of those actions if any? I'll check with SteveO since he is in touch with Dr. Sarno in his retirement.
As far as being accused of PENDANTRY, that was quite a shocker to me, BUT thanks for the compliment. It's been a while since my college days and I thought I knew what it meant, but looked it up anyway.
Here's the def:
=================================== "pedantic -
Characterized by a narrow, often ostentatious concern for book learning and formal rules: a pedantic attention to details."
====================================
Given your allopathic description of how the shoulder can be injured due to over-exuberant mousing, I believe you are PROJECTING.
So we've decided, if faced with a SLAP SUIT, attempting to infringe on our FREEDOM OF SPEECH, alleging the giving of incorrect tennis advice, on an INTERNET MESSAGE BOARDC, we would counter sue for BARITRY, HARASSMENT, citing long standing case law in Nolan vs. Dolan, and Koontz vs St. Johns River Water Management District. We would exercise our Fifth Amendment Constitutional rights, instituting our PULLMAN ABSTENTION, requesting a SUMMARY JUDGEMENT by the court in our behalf and concurrently file a cross complaint for all court costs and personal medical expenses due to incurring yet un-specified (but predictable) TMS caused stress PSYCHOSOMATIC "injuries". The money judgement we receive, from winning the cross-complaint, WE will donate to the Wagreens/AMA Foundation for researching the efficacy of OTC's, and RX's versus Voo-Doo, on eradicating the scourge of chronic tennis elbow in third world countries.
And Ric, thanks for the heads-up on being traceable on the internet, I would have never thought of that, it almost makes me feel paranoid--so let me make it easier for anyone to contact me to discuss Tennis/TMS, or String Theory and it's impacts on the funny bone, here's my cell: 415.264.4090.
Cheers, tt/lsmft

Hey Plum, It's definitely more important to HEAL than to be Right in my book! My shoulders are getting better but now my index finger has been hurting..geez louise!! It is the finger that was run over by a sled when I was a kid and never looked normal again..It's bigger than my other fingers and a big crooked. So,i am worrying about the big A..'arthritis'..yikes..never felt a concern about that one b4..My diet has been crapola lately..very acidic..i am sure that isn't helping..My back, feet and other areas have been dying to let TMS take over in place of the shoulder..it's utterly amazing how it moves around!! stubborn little bugger, indeed! I do have a ton of stress right now..might have to move again..yikes! long story there! Hugs, K |
