It is interesting to hear Dr.Dave that did the interview acknowledge candidly at the end in his closing monologue that he always thought his various aches and pains were due to bad posture. He is a Ph.D and Emeritus Professor of Psychology at Sonoma State University yet it never crossed his mind that there could be a mind-body connection. Fascinating. |

yes- he is a very intelligent and experienced psychologist, and no doubt wise as per his years. And yet, as he acknowledges, somehow these notions slipped by him. This is not his failing as a person, but simply reflective of our contemporary culture. I think we have suffered from a cultural amnesia, as well as broad scale denial of distressed emotions, which has gone on for several decades now (any fluke that these happen to be the same decades which have seen chronic pain escalate to epidemic proportions in the Western world?). Sarno was one of the first people to re-discover these realities in the early 1970's, under the guidance of his depth-psychologist colleague, Stanly Cohen.
Part of my mission is to inform contemporary psychologists about this stuff- to reintroduce it to psychology, so that people suffering may one day have a reasonable chance of finding a therapist who is able to help. I hope that my book, and the Shrink Rap Radio interview will help with this as it has a huge listenership.
