Susan you do know your stuff! I cannot message you, well, I can, but you can't message me back, my email wont accept. But you are right my wisdom teeth are gone. It is number 3 and 4.
I looked up an implant and I thought no way, isn't that a great way to get some freakish bone infection as you age? I mean I won't do anything that hasn't been done for a longish time. Like the dentist gave me penicillan and I was so happy. I always want the oldies but goodies. None of this new fangled stuff.
Well, if you can think of me next week, I will have some questions and the info for- here are my choices and help me decide!
I know they say that to have missing teeth means the teeth will migrate and weaken and more expenses down the pike for those teeth.

| Hi guys even though things do sometimes need standard medical attension, one must ask what caused me to get this problem in the first place and that's were I do think TMS is the cause. This may be hard for most to believe, but I have reasons that are too detailed to write on here now. So get medically treated if need be, but still work on the TMS. I actually think that once TMS has been in a area for a prolonged period of time changes DO start to happen in this region. There is a test called the bone scan and we see uptake in areas were people have pain like in their back etc. if we were going by he pure TMS model this should not be the case, but it is. Good luck to all. |

I know..in my next life, I want to come back as something with no teeth, if there is such an animal :-) I have tooth #14 missing (equivalent of #3 but on left side) and if something migrated after 20 years, I sure don't know it.
I was going to get an implant when they pulled my eye tooth. It was an old root canal that abscessed and had to come out. They gave me a bone graft in preparation for the implant. However, I found a prosthodontist who was able to attach the new tooth to the one next to it (they did have to remove old crown next to it and attach new tooth to new crown) BUT he did not have to destroy the other adjacent tooth. Rather, he attached a little metal "rest" that attaches on the back of the good tooth, I can't feel it, but it gives some support. It's been fine for a few years but as I said, it's not an option with back teeth that we use more.
I have seen people go through hell with implants and I have seen great success stories. Not my cup of tea but I'd never try to dissuade someone from getting them.
So, see what next week brings and let me know. Just another thing, if you google...there is a board online that is run by someone who thinks root canals are toxic and she scares the heck out of people. If you come upon it, please don't let it influence you. I have had root canals last 30, 40 years and still holding up. Hope your pain has subsided, the penicillin should ease it in about 36-48 hours and soon you'll be rid of this darn tooth. Sometimes I wish I had dentures, I swear...my friends who do are so happy to never have to deal with a toothache again! |

| Yes everybody dies. Never said anyone is invincible. I think SteveO agrees with me this one in terms of what tms is. You'll have to just wait and see what you think after you recover. It's the stuff that comes out of no where that I call TMS. Like I said look at the bone scan results of people with back pain. There is clear inflammation in these areas. Why don't you call that "wearing out"? Why do you call that TMS and how can you differentiate? I await your answer. Sylvia I can feel the strain in your response. You can just simply disagree without the excitement. Why does my opinion upset you? |

Root canals can last till end of life, I'm liking that! That's what I do not want to do, to have something that will need to be attended to in 60's or 70's. If I didn't have good looking teeth I'd say rip them out and give me fabulous dentures.
I read somewhere that some Amish have their kids teeth removed to wear dentures so they have no teeth trouble. Now that's some crazy preventative medicine! |

#3 is a cracked necrotic tooth. Recommendation-extraction.
#4 tooth fine, cracked tooth causing issue.
So no root canal, and insurance will pay for 80% of extraction. Yay!
And no, I'm not going to fill in the blank. I'm just going to have the space as a place to keep my chewing gum. |

Yay, Sylvia! We'll be tooth twins! Sometimes spaghetti will go in that space but it's no bother, it comes right out! Sure beats a root canal and wondering if it will eventually abscess. When are they going to extract it? I have had a few teeth pulled and felt nothing and it took no more than a minute, sometimes a few seconds! I am happy for you now  |

I'll let you know when it is to be pulled. Now the endo's did a test, I think it is freon they spray on some cotton that is freezing and then they touch it to the top of the tooth....It was then I vowed to be in the next life a Vegas Showgirl, so I could take em out with a high kick of pain : ) Whoomph!

My mother nearly died from abscessed teeth, as a matter of fact. Turned out one her expensive root canals had a pocket of infection that spread to far and wide. I wasn't home at the time but my sister swears her head swelled to almost double size. Nothing to fool around with.
Someone asked, "What do people around the world do without dentists? Stay drunk?" Probably. In many countries, people still don't get anesthetized because it's "too expensive" (these are "normal", middle class people with decent incomes). I have the impression they think anesthetics are for sissies. Needless to say, they put off going to the dentist until they are desperate.
One thing that works for cavities is this: get a bottle of iodine from the drug store and put some in in a small amount of warm water. Swish and spit. Do this often until the pain is gone, then cut back gradually to a few drops once or twice a day to keep it under control.. This will actually heal small to middling cavities and settle down the big ones, too. I did it for 25 years with no negative effects that I know of.
I wouldn't try it on abscesses though because they are deep inside and the iodine would not get to them. Also, on very large cavities you are probably just covering over the surface so you can't quit as the tooth will start hurting again.
Anyway, it worked and save me a small fortune in dental fees at a time when I couldn't afford them. I finally (25 years after starting the iodine) got about $ 500 in work done while my husband, who wouldn't even try it, spent $ 12,000 getting his mouth fixed up. |

Sylvia, I have an incredibly neurotic dog who I swear has tms. She was the extreme runt of her litter and was rescued from a batch of rowdy siblings who had nearly chewed off one of her ears. She thinks the world sucks and while people are fine she can't stand any other dog even a bit bigger than she is. She spends a lot of time dragging around the house, moaning, and looking hard done by. Her vet says she is not arthritic and has no health problems to explain all the drama. Lol, just like me when the tms is upon me.
