11. Eliminate all negative talk and stop yourself from going down a negative line of thinking.

Perhaps Ace1 could help us to define "negative thinking". What, for example, is the difference between positive thinking (denial of the negative aspects of life) and just a general sense of optimism? Is this idea of avoiding negative thinking personal or public?

This is probably the most difficult tip for me to grasp. On the one hand, I don't want to be so negative that I frighten myself or cause a constant state of worry and bad feeling. On the other hand, being too positive can set us up for disappointment and even prevent us from taking action to manifest what we want out of life.

I would appreciate anyone's comments.

You know what reality is bc your monitoring your inner reactions all day, so its not like your fooling yourself. Once you see the truth of your reactions, its like changing your thought pattern on the issue. You will see that in our society, people are always complaining and that becomes a source of conversation. Like the weather is horrible, the kids are driving me up a wall etc. Most people now are prone to strain mentally and physically in these situations. A negative line of thinking is for example someone cuts you off, you start thinking how could they do this to me, this is not justice, I should go and do this in return. Repression means your reacting like this and you have no clue that your hurting yourself or hyped up. It also means that you know something like that bothered you, you feel that you were wronged and you did nothing about it. That makes it eat at you. This key just stops you from feeding this reaction with more fuel, but helping you to now react to this situation with real peace, reallly feeling that it doesn't matter. Negative talk and thinking only negates the positive effects from the positive mind power techniques mentioned on yesterday's key. Negative talk and negative thinking prevents relaxation and revs your mind up, which is the opposite of what you want.

Yes, Ace, I am, for the most part monitoring my reactions all day. I often see the truth of my reactions, very often it is clear that I really should not have reacted at all. My negative reactions are often a result of early childhood conditioning when I felt the whole world was unfair. I recently encountered a person in authority who treated me very unfairly. I came to realize that what bothers me so much about these situations is not the "authority figure" (because that really does not matter much, is more of a misunderstanding), but the reaction of my own mind of upset, frustration, anger and even fear, that I will probably have to go through before this issue can stop bothering me, and that it IS all about me. Fortunately, I am making serious progress on these issues, those that involve the voluntary control of my own mind.

I guess what I am getting at is that I find certain forms of "negativity" about the human condition, government depravity, deceit and corruption, economic repression, etc, extremely intellectually stimulating. You are right, it does really rev up my nervous system and if I get thinking about this at night, I often can't fall asleep. I wish I could completely intellectualize this topic and keep my emotions completely out of it. It seems as though there are people who can do that. I have an extreme reluctance to give this up, but that is probably because of my mentally negative polarization. I guess I have transferred my underlying anger to a "public" sphere. I have trouble giving this up because I find it so interesting and it has become so much a part of who I think I am.

Take my advice chickenbone and, for your own mental health and sense of overall well-being, go on a short-term media fast. Try 3 weeks at first with absolutely zero news. It is so liberating. I personally do not have a clue what is taking place in the world and I am a former journalist. Me knowing or not knowing is not going to change anything about what is taking place. If you want intellectual stimulation then read Plato's Republic.

I totally agree with the media fast thing.

I don't think we were evolutionarily designed to deal with that much input, and especially us highly sensitive types. I was raised by scientists who had been drafted to help create the atomic bomb, and then the anti-nuclear movement in UK met in our home when I was growing up. And so I was bonded with bad news from a very early age.

It has been an important self-recovery for me to step back from it all. I vote and keep an eye on what I can affect locally, very minimally, and it helps me a lot. I believe my peace of mind has more effect than the incredible rage and anxiety my parents were always projecting about the world.

Actually I am moving into other kinds of fasting - like a taking-my-symptoms-seriously fast and a takingmypersonalidentityseriously fast...

Love is the answer, whatever the question

Agreed. Active participation on political/news forums like the Huffington Post is terrible. There are so many people that are just there to rile you up and are getting a kick out of it.
I completely stopped as it is completely pointless with or without TMS symptoms.

Wavy, you are so right about all the *noise*. It overwhelms the nervous system, 24/7 without cease, never allowing it time to settle and calm. I also like your fasting style. I don't take myself seriously.

Like others, I eschew the media completely and have done for many years. Every now and then I hear about what's going on in the big, bad world and somehow the story stays the same. I don't watch tele either so I was shocked recently when I was visiting a friend who had the box on, at how long the adverts lasted for. 20 minutes of brainwashing each time. I refer to tv and the internet as 'the big glass tit'. Be mindful of how much time you spend sucking on it.

Here is a poem I wrote 6 years ago:

The Devil's Square Eye

Shawn Smith- July 25, 2006

Staring blankly into the space before me
A multitude of images flash before my eyes
A multitude of messages reach my ears, beating on the internal drum
A multitude of emotions course through my being
Hunger, anger, laughter, sorrow, revulsion, lust......
Yet nothing of substance is communicated

Invitations
Grandiose promises
Titillation's
Wars
Rumors of wars
Proclamations
Denunciations
Empty blab

All critical thinking is suspended
All time appears to stand still
All black becomes white and white becomes black
As the flab increases around my waist
As the cells of my brain burn into a wasteland of nothingness
Fantasy and reality co-mingle

Bulbous breasts and fire breathing messengers of God
Intellectuals and hate-mongers
Singers and bafoons
Politicians and Barney, the purple dinosaur
Misery and opulence
Feasts and famines
Golfers and bungee jumpers
Worm-eaters and violinists
The latest formula of laundry detergent and the war on Lebanon
The good, the bad and the ugly
All sharing the same space
All vying for my attention
All calling me to their version of the gospel truth
All attempting to empty both my wallet and my soul

The devil himself has stared me down with his big square eye
Peeping into my soul
Stealing away the core of my being
And here I sit not moving, not blinking, not offering any form of resistance
Slowly and surely he wears me down until I become a shell of who I once was

i never thought this key could be accomplished-but it can
and its the most powerful concept of them all
to put you into the law of attraction
yes it can be accomplished and if you think not-
then you might want to re-think what your thinking
see the negative thoughts always have us reved up-
so without this way of thinking-we can learn to
live a life thats calming on the nerves and pain free

Eric, yes!
The Law of Attraction.
You're absolutely right.
Sending you love.

I'm off to buy an armful of flowers, beacons of joy that they are.

wow-when i first saw this i thought now how in the world am i supposed to accomplish that. ten years preaching and i still had bad thoughts at times - why couldnt i break it. because little did i know i was conditioned like a pavlov dog to think negative-wow
then i did the affirmations and the healing was really helping and this new found trust at the site seeing folks healed and reading about it, that wasd enough to make me change my thinking there but see id always seen everyone else get it, now i learnt new terms and ideas then i started getting better, then i learned that good talk in your head is always the best-its about reconditioning to a way of thinking youve never known-wow.
