9. Another way to understand this strain is that we expect our body/self to accomplish the impossible. We try to be faster than we can possibly be, angrier than we can stand, nicer and better than what is humanly possible. The strain, in a way, is a pushing feeling beyond ones limit. This doesn't ever help accomplish this unattainable goal, all it does is breaks our bodies down and turns into a bad habit. |

Another point I can identify with. I began a drawing and painting class this term, and have attended 3 classes. A. To get out and meet new people, and B. To have some fun learning more about this subject. Today I stayed home, because I have been putting so much strain on myself to be excellent in every class, my pain started to become unmanageable. It wasn't fun, and yes, I was reaching for "unattainable goals". |

Plum - thanks for posting these again - it's really helping me clarify Ace's points and relate them to where I'm going wrong.
My new affirmations are "I'm calm and peaceful, happy and healing".

Cath, it's my pleasure. There are so many benefits to teasing each key apart one by one. Yes, I can claim fidelity to the impossible as I blindly meandered the healing path and yet...and yet...my world is changing. We don't have to be the best, whatever that means, we only need be fully present and fully human and enjoy what we do. It's raining softly, I've a hot cup of tea and Louis Armstrong is singing for me. |

Plum, you're so right. We need to relax a little and just enjoy life's experiences. I do have some bad habits that need to be broken, and maybe then I will find true healing. |

"You should sit in meditation for 20 minutes a day, unless you are too busy; then you should sit for an hour."

Ekhart Tolle -- A New Earth
To end the misery that has afflicted the human condition for thousands of years, you have to start with yourself and take responsibility for your inner state at any given moment. That means now. Ask yourself, “Is there negativity an me at this moment?” Then, become alert, attentive to your thoughts as well as your emotions. Watch out for the lowlevel unhappiness in whatever form at hat I mentioned earlier, such as discontent, nervousness, being “fed up,” and so on. Watch out for thoughts that appear to justify or explain this unhappiness but in reality cause it. The moment you become aware of a negative state within yourself, it does not mean you have failed. It means that you have succeeded. until that awareness happens, there is identification with inner states, and such identification is ego.
With awareness comes disidentification from thoughts, emotions, and reactions. This is not to be confused with denial. The thoughts, emotions, or reactions are recognized, and in the moment of recognizing, disidentification happens automatically. Your sense of self, of who you are, then undergoes a shift: Before you were the thoughts, emotions and reactions; now you are the awareness, the conscious Presence that witnesses those states. |
