I was searching for something on the internet earlier about Sarno and ran across this disturbing post:
Polymath 08-27-2007, 02:13 PM Dr. Sarno is very very interesting... He is the reason I applied and interviewed at NYU... but...
when I went there to interview 2 years ago, the 3 attendings who interviewed me (you know, the 3 guys that lock you in that room and gang up on you all at once!) really made it seem like a bad thing that I was inquiring about him and his "theories".... in other words, when I inquired about possibly working with Dr. Sarno, they didn't take that too lightly, they all think he's a quack and have all-but locked him away in some room at NYU...thus, I knew NYU wasn't for me.
I wonder. If the post is true, do other doctors at NYU feel this way about Sarno. I know his theory may be hard for some to swallow but you would think people who work in the same building with Sarno would see his success first hand. What do you guys think?

That's pretty much the way he's viewed at NYU, he's been shunned, ignored and considered a quack by his colleagues for years now. It's not easy to buck the medical/industrial complex. Another great thinker, Sir Issac Newton's classes at Cambridge were empty except for one loyal assistant while the students frolicked at the local pubs with the trollops. For most TMS physicians, TMS is only a small part of their practice because the vast majority of their patients won't entertain the thought that the pain is due to their unconscious thoughts. Someday the good doctor will hopefully win a Noble prize for medicine. |

Here's what I think, Walnut:
"First they ignore you,
then they laugh at you,
then they fight you,
then you win.”

If they say this about sarno-whos the best dam thing ive heard of since sliced bread i hate to consider there theories-dr sarnos right-look at all the healings on this post -i was healed in 2002 and because i didnt study sarnos mind theory -now im having to reap the sowing-but now that i know what i didnt know then -sarnos complete theory-i am amazed at the benefits of psycosomatic healing-its the others guys that think hes a quack that r quacks-if there so lost as to not see his impact on the world of healing-i can see why that bunch will never be written in the history books other than following anothers blind thoughts-i mean its silly not to see or feel the truth (espesially)when youve been there in sarnos teachings.you have to walk a mile in another mans shoes before you can judge him |

I know I told others who suffered from back pain, that it can have another source. I've even tried to give them the book to read, but they say things such as, "its from a fall ten years ago", or "its from lifting heavy things for too long", or "I have something wrong with my spine".
People don't want to believe its has another cause. I guess, even though I know his theory and have accepted it, and it has worked for me tremendously...sometimes it is still hard for me to believe it is really that simple.
And by simple, I don't mean that it doesn't take effort and strength to go on with your life. That's the tough part, but it works.
