Has anyone read Fred Amir's book and successfully used his methods of challenging one's conditioning and fighting though the pain? |

By the way, his book is Rapid Recovery from Back and Neck Pain...From what I remember, he does not proceed gradually. |

I read it and liked it. The thing I liked the most was the reward part, how you need to reward the kid in you. I do that with buying myself frozen yogurt on occasion, or take a long bath in silence. This and just bathing myself in positive talk seem to really help me. I would recommend it for sure. Hope this helps. |

Did you proceed with a rapid return to all normal activities despite encountering significant pain? Please give me more info regarding your situation. |

I did not find this book helpful at all. I think that his method does work for some, but these are the people that were going to get better anyway with the information that nothing is really wrong with them. I experienced no improvement over what I got from Dr. Sarno's books alone by reading this book. It is however somewhat helpful to see someone with such suffering get better as it gives hope. |

Fox, yes I did. I have had some pretty intense ups and downs with the back pain. I had been a spinning instructor prior to the onset of pain, and I promptly went right back to it once I read Dr. Sarno's book and subsequently Steve O's book. Then I picked up Fred Amir's book because of Steve O. I'm not going to lie, there were days when I thought, "Am I coming back too fast?" But then the good days started increasing, even though I still had some bad days. I just kept a positive focus as best I could and told myself that there was going to be an eventual end to the pain (which by the way still lingers in a very mild way). And I decided that in the meantime I was going back to enjoying what I love, which was Group Fitness classes and running. Then I noticed the pain going from low back to knees, back and forth. So I knew I had it on the run. I think what I was missing before this all started was the reward factor for working so hard for others. So now I'm doing 10 milers and teaching a couple of spinning classes a week. Do not give up, do not give in. It will get better, you have to believe... |

It's been a while since I read it but my recollection is that I found it to be excellent, helpful and inspirational. Like SteveO's book, it gives a real life, first hand history of a TMS sufferer and how he overcame it. Here's a link to Amazon's reviews of it. Judge for yourself if you want to spend a few bucks to payback a contributor to the TMS literature and spend your time reading it.

Fred's book helped me, as you may have read. But remember back then in the primordial soup days of TMS there was simply so little information. We begged and pleaded for information beyond the 2 TMS bibles. Fred came in and told his story to show it could be done. He also made me laugh for the first time in quite a while when he said that he and his physiatrist began laughing at the laundry list of his ailments. I guess it looked like a new roll of toilet paper as they unrolled it. My list was long too, problem after problem arises if you don't know about TMS. Those poor sobs who don't know about it and refuse to believe it.
Fred has also been very good at trying to respond to people with questions. He is very compassionate and well versed on TMS.
He will be pleased to hear that my book is now selling more of his. Together we made a small difference in a confusing world. But a person can only do so much. As my message own gets closer to the professionals it begins to meet greater blowback.

Fox I got his book ages ago after reading HBP. I found it very especially Useful at a time when there wasn't much info about TMS around plus he also got an endorsement from Sarno who he quotes extensively .
What was helpful was reading about his own battle with TMS, how it spread for no apparent reason from back to knees to shoulder, his numerous visits to doctors & physios which did not help, the conflicting advice he gets which leaves him even more confused & how he overcomes his problems.
It's a good book to have . I think it's available for about $ 11.00 on kindle.
Here's the link to his website rapid recovery. Have a look at the book summary & comments.

Honestly, I sometimes really get fed up with my subconscious. It's like it's got a mind of its own.
