Hi, all -

I was wondering if anyone has successfully treated ulcer type symptoms. Back in the 1980's, I had something called Esophagitis. I had taken a medication that they believe caused a severe allergic reaction. I had many open ulcers going down my esophagus all the way to my stomach. They did an upper endoscopy on me in the hospital and found this. I was hospitalized for two weeks. The doctors were stumped -- they said they had never seen anything like what I had and didn't know what to call it so they called it simply Esophagitis. I lost about 20 pounds during that time.

About nine years ago, I was having a burning sensation in my stomach. I had another upper endoscopy which revealed "Gastritis" and no actual ulcer. As soon as I learned there was no ulcer, and after I took Prilosec for a couple weeks, it all cleared up.

For the past month, I've been complaining of upper stomach discomfort and lower abdominal cramping and pain. I saw a gastroenterologist last week. He thinks I have a "nervous stomach" and that because of all the stress in my life this is happening to me. The lower abdominal problems have eased up immensely (I'm taking acidophilis twice per day) but every time I started thinking stressful thoughts it feels like someone is pouring acid down into my stomach.

Has anyone had this upper stomach pain and been able to get rid of it? I see the doctor for a followup in a week and a half. I am not taking the Aciphex he recommended (all sorts of nasty side effects, including more of what I've been suffering from). Instead, I've been taking licorice root extract (DGL). I took this a couple years ago for bad heartburn and acid reflux and it cured it. It rebuilds the lining of your stomach and cures ulcers. Natural things always take longer but they don't mask the problem they actually heal it. But, maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree. Maybe Dr. Sarno would say to take nothing and just do my TMS work.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Kajsa,

Funny you would ask. I would say overall, yes, a little bit. I used to get on the treadmill and think "Oh, no, I'm feeling dizzy." Now, the past two times I've been on it I didn't think about being dizzy but my stomach was hurting and I was focused on that. I'm pretty convinced my stomach is TMS setting up camp elsewhere in my body. I'm just having a difficult time making the burning feeling stop. I know drugs and antacids aren't the answer but it hurts. I know it's all stress - my husband is still waiting to be paid and I keep worrying about money. He keeps telling me to hold on because it should be coming soon but it's hard to hold on when you have bills to pay and a family to take care of. Last week I had two cervical polyps removed and am awaiting a biopsy. One of them was huge (they called it a tumor) so I'm a little on edge not knowing the results of that. I know I take everything and put it in my gut -I have done that since I was a kid. This is my body's wake up call -it's had enough of me internalizing everything and putting it in my stomach. I'm doing my TMS work - reading the books, journaling, trying to address what I'm angry about. I just want to see an end in sight to the misery (don't we all???).

Laura,

I had the exact same symptom--a burning pain right below my ribcage in the center. This had to be about 3 or 4 years ago. It was constant and nothing could be found (I had an endoscopy as well); I was diagnosed with gastritis and given one of the "purple pills." Now my situation was a bit more complicated in the sense that I was on IV antibiotics--my second round--because I thought all my symptoms were due to Lyme Disease (I received 6 months total of IV antibiotics and tons of orals, all for naught!) But I was desperate at the time and thought it was helping me.

The pain went away after I discontinued the IV, so I'm not quite sure what was causing it. But I can say that prior to the whole LD fiasco, I got the same sort of stomach aches for days at a time and nothing would relieve them--not ginger, pepto, DGL, etc. In hindsight I suspect they were TMS; and even today, if I concentrate really hard on that same location I can feel a slight burning, but only when I sit there and think about it hard.

If your endo checked out alright, and the bloodwork etc. is fine, I would definately keep up with the TMS method. I feel your pain, stomach pains are the worst. Don't despair, you'll prevail. Feel well.

Thank you, Seth. I appreciate your input. I think this evening I realized what's "eating up" my stomach. I talked about the situation with my husband and do feel a bit better. It helps to hear from others who know your pain!!! Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Of course it is TMS but there is nothing wrong in taking a pill to ease the pain IF that is possible.
If there was a pain for fatigue I would sure take it.
I had very bad ulcers myself for many , many years (ond and of).
I took conventional medicine but the result was poor/did not help very much.
In the end I tried something that over here is called " Astaxin". Itīs an extreme potent antioxidant (very red colour) from Haematococccus pluvialis (can not think of the english word -it is this small potent plant that grows in the sea?)
I read an article about astaxin and ulcers and I tried it and it helped amazingly ! (I have tried houndered of vitamins and pills and stuff for my different symptoms -and nothing has ever helped)
Tday the only supplement I take is Astaxin
I eat it on a regulat basis now. In the beginning I had to take
six of them every day -but after some weeks I just take one every second day or so (They are expensive). But if I stop my ulcers returns
I am sure my ulcer are TMS ! But there is no need to suffer IF there
is a pill who can "cure" the symptom.
I mean I have enough TMS that forces me to go on with my life...
Actually my friend who is a conventional scientist and doctor thinks that Astaxin is very potent and interesting and there has been some
research done on it -with good results.
I do not know if you have it "over there" or what the name is for it
in USA.

Thanks, Kajsa, I will do some research on it if I can find it. I've never heard of it before but I agree; why suffer.

http://www.nutraingredients.com/productnews/productpresentation.asp?id=263

Here is a link. I am not into "health products" at all -quite the opposite. But this worked for me.
MY fried (the scientist) who is very sceptic have read some good research about it on MEDLINE -done by conventional scientists.
Itīs worth a try.
As long as you do not forget that it is TMS...
