For those in whom TMS manifests as pain, they're urged to acknowledge that physical activity is not dangerous and to resume physical activity. How about those of us whose main symptom of TMS (after all physical causes have been ruled out) is fatigue and tiredness. If we're overcome by a feeling of total exhaustion and lassitude, how are we to approach this?

Hi Sam,
I've been wondering whether my episodes of exhaustion ARE TMS or not (still not sure) but I handle them in much the same way as I would (did) my acute pain episodes ... as someone once posted: "Sometimes all you can do is ride out a pain episode. I saw Dr. Sarno in the early 1990's. During one of his lectures, someone asked him what to do when you had a severe pain attack. He replied, with a twinkle in his eye, "go to bed with a good book and a bottle of wine"."

So when I feel exhausted I take a power nap or just sleep for a long while!

I have been allowing myself to just splat on the couch in the afternoons. Not that I have any choice - as you said, there are levels of fatigue/exhaustion that don't allow "pushing through", although when my energy comes back, I always think I shoulda been able to. Then the tiredness comes again and it's quite absurd to fight it. This is not normal tiredness, for me.

My edge is trying not to feel depressed and hopeless about the fact this is happening. I can feel how that feeds the loop when I start thinking, "But why am I fatigued? Is this really CFS (after 30 years)? Is it Lymes? Did I eat ....?" and so on. I'm learning to just be neutral. Pushing through isn't an option (I do that in the morning with caffeine). But being neutral is kind of radical and feels almost dangerous in its naughtiness.

Love is the answer, whatever the question
