Well, I guess I havent "fully" beaten it then but compared to where I used to be, I feel like I have...

It just keeps popping up. I feel like I am chasing it endlessly around my body.

Last week I "beat" insomnia and KNEW that something would take its place and low and behold, my neck pain is back. Once I "beat" or "think" this neck pain out, I will likely get some IBS symptoms or maybe, some shoulder pain or maybe even sinus problems or allergies? Who knows what my whacky sub-conscious has in store.

So how do I stop this endless chase? Do I just try and ignore the whole thing or do I "treat" each symptom as it pops up? The latter is becoming old and its exhausting. If I can make the symptom go away but cannot stop new ones from taking its place, I am obviously missing a large part of the healing process here...

Sounds like a self-fulfilling prophecy. As long as you treat each individual symptom, you will be maintaining your focus on the physical. The solution is to see all the symptoms as one, TMS, and focus on your emotional/psychological issues.

Avik,
BB's advice is pretty spot on. I get all sorts of things going on, the trick for me is to focus on what I'm thinking about and how I am going emotionally.......the symptoms are a result and thus will pass and change.

Avik, what they said X'2. The "secret" to or the work of TMS is : when you feel the bodily pain, shift your thinking to the emotional. If that's too foreboding at the moment, accept that it's "only" TMS, painful but benign. Your TMS pain is doing it's job to protect you from what your subconscious has decided would be even greater emotional pain. Accept it as a protector or as SteveO has nicely put it, it's doing you a "FAVOR". If you want to find out the tension causing life situations, that are filling your well, look at the Rahe-Holmes list.

Doctors keep telling us every year before the cold and flu season to not forget to wash our hands, be well rest, take vitamin C to boost our immune system... All to prevent us from getting flu and cold.

We need a prevention program for tms/anxiety too. Negative thoughts and emotions are tms virus. We need to keep them far away from our mind. We need to elliminate stress from our life. We need to know how to accept and how to let go of our bad feelings. We need a strong circle of emotional support to deal with traumatic and stressful events in life.

Many of us know how to get rid of tms/anxiety, but very few know how to prevent them from coming back. Doctors taught how to cure the disease, but they don't or rarely teach us how to prevent it. It is up to us to do it.
