Hi all, I'm a biomedical engeneer. I will conduct a study of a new approach for rehabilitation of upper limb impairment in stroke patients. To evaluate improvement I'll use: - clinical scales (like Barthel, Fugl-Meyer), - kinesiology exam - TMS !!!
With TMS I will measure the connection between the primary motor cortex and a muscle to evaluate damages.
I would like some advice on possibilities of TMS technique and further information about the use I can do of TMS for my purpose.
Thank you in advance and sorry for my basic English...

Hi, well I'm guessing by your name you're in France or Canada maybe. If you want to apply TMS techniques you're best bet would be to find a TMS savy psychotherapist or psychiatrist, good luck finding one! TMS is about emotional pain originating in the mind and exhibiting in the body or other affective symptoms such as depression. The treatment would be talk therapy, not PT. You could apply it to real strokes I would imagine, by encouraging placebo healing and discouraging the nocebos. If I were in a test group, I would hate to be the one put into the group receiving the nocebos. If you haven't read one of Dr. Sarno's books, that would be step one to understand the theory.
Cheers

A better approach might be to send an email to one of the TMS docs. I don't know how available Dr Sarno is nowadays, but Dr Sopher seems to be very good at answering emails. Maybe Dr Shubiner too. |

I think Michelle times 2 is talking about transcranial magnetic stimulation therapy. She may have the wrong forum.

All right, so I'll bring some controversy to this debate. Short of knowing what biomedical engineering is, I will advance that Michele is an Italian male and NOT a French female.

Hi Shari and SO What?, you may both be right. But I'm willing to wager that the three "!!!" signify that Michelle Mabelle is talking about our brand of psycho-TMS. I'll bet one of SteveO's new book's on it. I think biomed engineers make things like stainless steel screws for disc fusions.
