...so I'm a painter.

When I'm in people's homes, they usually assume I'm an idiot and talk quite candidly...I've been witness to many a family fight, overheard "info" that is none of my biz, etc.

I had the enlightening experience of painting in the home of a couple today,,,,,a Radiologist and her MD Husband. They were reviewing MRI's and giving their diagnosis quite loudly into a dictaphone program that converted their words into those "reports" we used to get when we were in the system.

Funny....they first review the patients COMPLAINT and than try to make the MRI account for it ,not the other way around. Some were for structural stuff(shoulders, elbows) and some were for soft tissue stuff(ovarian cysts, ulcers)

These are some of the things I noticed:

Not ONCE did they say that the MRI did not substantiate the complaint.

They recommended further treatment and tests for EVERY single MRI...not one single one was given an OK,as in "you're fine...forget about it"

I was apalled at their arrogance when they laughed amongst each other regarding a womans MRI that had come back with a note from another field of medicine. The doctor had noted that he thought the "cyst" on the womans ovaries was probably no big deal, and had not progressed....granted the other Dr. was in a holistic field that I myself look askance at,but they completely disregarded his/her suggestion that it was no big deal and recommended a whole slew of other tests and further MRI's.They smugly had a chuckle at the idea that this person could Possibly have a clue....they are the Gnostics with the "special secret knowledge"

They had to speak loud and clear into the computer,so I had no choice but to listen to them while I worked.......I was sooo tempted to ask them if they EVER released anyone from the system....but than again,I'm just a stupid manual laborer...what would I know??

Boy,I sure am glad I'm not as smart as them.

The MRI has become the boondoggle of the medical field....they keep taking pictures and keep finding anomalies and abnormalities....it's like you can jump in and never leave.......I wish there was an MRI for homes.I could paint and plaster your house for YEARS!!!

I thought in worthy of mention that they had no children but 10 pets I could count(5 dogs,4 cats and a parrot)......their home was FILTHY with dog feces and cat piss everywhere.....It was a surreal experience to say the very least.

At one point, the MD husband returned from the vet with one of their pets and gave as thorough of a "diagnosis" of all the medical attention that their parrot needed as any of the Human patients whose MRI's they were reviewing.....their bird is in for a long, long series of medical procedures....He elaborated extensively on it's need for surgery, some structural problem with its' leg,medication,yada,yada,yada,.................

...also,one of their cats is in need of continuing treatment for it's eye infection/blindness(funny,I had a cat with the same problem, and my vet said 'keep it clean....nothing we can do...the eyes gone'...their cat needs constant attention.I imagine their other pets need just as much medical care...it's a good thing they have a large income and can afford all these expensive treatments.

Thank god for Sarno......

ahhh.

That was a wonderful read baseball :)

It just highlighted so many things about the industry.

Especially the arrogance. ' How could a stupid painter know anything' lol. its amuses me to no end how people think they know everything.

no one knows everything! Personally, I think the moment I have 100% certainty in anything I say about the external world. I have just become an idiot, lol i think anybody who can question something is smarter than the 'experts'.

but enough of my personal philosophies :)

that story really makes me wonder... PEOPLE!!! are so bizzare lol people never cease to amaze me.(and yes , people and my interactions with them. I feel are at the centre of my TMS :))

Hey, Baseball,

That was a great story. I feel sorry for those poor pets. Maybe if those idiotic doctors spent a fraction of the time they use ordering new tests for people (and their pets) and cleaned up their garbage dump of a house they'd be doing something good for the world.

I just love these medical doctors like this who think they have ALL the answers for EVERYONE. I have a naturopathic doctor I see from time to time. I know a lot of people think they're quacks but I rather enjoy talking to this guy (he is the spit and image of Wilford Brimley - the big grey mustache and the whole nine yards) and I derive comfort from talking to him and listening to his suggestions. He is the most non money grubbing human being I've ever met in my life. He rarely charges us for anything. He uses this machine on me (and has used it on my husband and one of my daughters) called a QXCI machine. I don't talk to most people about it because they'd think I'm a nut job for even thinking this stuff works but I have personally had some success with it. The QX machine as it's called is a biofeedback device (you can read about it on the internet) which apparently "Talks" to your subconscious. It was created by a Dr. Nelson. Anyway, my naturopathic doc hooked my 12 year old up last year when she had pneumonia. We had been to the pediatrician twice and the pediatrician said our daughter's 104 fever was a virus and nothing too serious (actually got rude and argued with us for being overly concerned). We hooked her up the machine that same day and the machine said "bacterical infection in the left lobe of the lung." The next day, we went to a different pediatrician. He immediately knew we were right and that something was seriously wrong so he reviewed the chest x-rays (the first doctor missed the pneumonia on the x-ray) and checked her out further and then came back into the room to tell me "Your daughter has pneumonia in the left lower lobe of her lungs." One time I had a couple of avacados a few hours before being hooked up to the machine. After a few minutes, he said to me "Did you have an avacado today? The machine says you had some or you need to have some. Something about avacados..."

So, this guy hooks me up the other day and the first thing that pops up on the screen is "Most stressed organ of the body - Colon." Well, I'm having major stomach distress - cramping, bloating, pain the whole thing. Then, like Louise Hay's books, it said something like "Overwhelming anger." Heck yeah, I'm angry. I'm angry about a lot of stuff right now.

Our naturopathic buddy charges us $25 for a session (typically the price is $75) and spends usually upwards of two hours with my husband or me. Like I said, half the time he doesn't even charge and any herbal supplements are at his cost. I haven't been taking anything for awhile until now. He recommended this stuff called IBS Max. It has ginger in it and licorice and other healing herbs. I personally have had good luck with licorice when I had miserable heartburn and indigestion a couple years ago. Two months of the licorice and it went away. I think this new thing started with all the stress AND because I was doing this stupid grapefruit diet in January.

The whole point of this long winded post is that when I mentioned this guy to my MD, he laughed and shook his head. He said to me "How many years did he go to medical school?" I wanted to say "Just because he didn't go to medical school doesn't mean he doesn't know anything." When I handed him my four bottles of supplements (chewable licorice root extract and the three IBS supplements) he said "I bet this cost a fortune." I replied "No, actually it wasn't much at all. I got it at cost and I think I paid about $30.00. I had to laugh - these doctors love writing prescriptions and ordering every test known to mankind, but show them something that actually costs very little and is a digestive AID and they laugh it off. He then proceeded to write me two prescriptions, both of which come with some pretty bad side effects that sound just like or worse than what I already have. No thanks!

I guess reading your story reminded me of that and I just had to share. I'm not saying naturopathy is for EVERYONE; just that I find some of it helpful from time to time for myself. I mean, if doctors will admit that eating certain things can make you worse, why not admit that taking certain things could benefit you. And they don't have to be drugs with a zillion side effects that cost an arm and a leg! I was really shocked when the gastro guy didn't schedule me for more tests. He wants to re-check in a few weeks and if it's not better then I'm sure that will be the next step. If this is TMS, which I do believe it is, then I've gotta go do my homework!!!

Take care! Thanks for the story.

Laura

Baseball,
That is a treasure of a story. Poor cats, dogs and parrots. I think it's probably great that they don't have children, but I still feel for the feathered and fur faced ones.

The arrogance? I hope you know that they'll never understand things the way you do. They have degrees on their walls that enable them to check peoples hearts and stuff. You have a heart.

My best,
Polly

Wasn't it Socrates who said, "The wise man admits he knows nothing"?

I've also been reading a really interesting book called The Places That Scare You by a buddhist nun and she writes a lot about how our assumptions about KNOWING stuff keep us from learning stuff.

She also writes quite a bit about the mindbody connection and I found it funny that many of the practices she recommends, I have already been doing - being aware of emotions, journaling, actively trying to get outside my conditioning - as part of my TMS healing.

Thanks for sharing about that couple, Baseball. Yikes!

I bet their cat's eye probably wouldn't have gotten infected in the first place if they freakin' cleaned their house. It's pretty ironic that they were so arrogant yet so unkempt. If you ask most MDs what the biggest discovery in medicine is/was they would probably cite Leewoenhook's discovery of micro-organisms.

But then again, what do I know? :)

It's a good thing they don't have children.

"Little Johnny! Don't bend like that! You'll hurt your back. Better give you a precautionary MRI.....Oh know! You have a little scratch on one of your discs. We better get you a fusion operation. We'll talk about it some more later on. We don't want you to be late for nursery school. You're so lucky that your parents are doctors."
