Hello Stephan. Like many others here, I have been to an osteopath. I commend you for being open minded to the fact that no one treatment method cures everything and be willing to interact on this forum. For me, I did get some relief from seeing an osteopath. She is one of the premier cranial-sacral manipulation osteopaths. I saw her for 18 months. But, i now can see that it was more the understanding attitude and quasi-counseling she did accompanied by the power of suggestion that in fact were the reason for my improvement while I was under her care. During a one hour session, she was always asking me about events in my life that were happening and then asking how I felt about them. I moved and stopped seeing her. Then I looked for another osteopath in my new area and found one. What a terrible difference. She just wanted to run xrays, MRIs, and give me meds. During this time, I fortunately came across the Sarno books. I have gotten a lot of relief from my symptoms. More than anything I had tried before actually. When I told my new osteopath this, she dismissed it as nonsense and proceeded to try and scare me with my MRI results. I have not been back to see her and am doing better than ever. I hope you can be more like my first osteopath and incorporate TMS theory into your practice. |

Hi,
you have put your finger on one of the biggest problem of our profession.
Osteopathy is not what it used to be.
as Dr Still said :"“touch” of the hand on the patient was of greater benefit than the use of drugs and some surgery."
i personally never take XRAY, i don't think it should even be part of the things we do. when in bout i refer to a specialist, and read the conclusions. be good at one thing rather than trying to be good at all things.
I am good with my hands. :)
you have to find what works for you and not WASTE time on a therapist that doesn't fit you. Its about the patient, Not about the therapist.
Unfortunately, this is being lost.
Anyhow, I'm starting to rant here :), its not the place
Thanks for welcoming me.

First of all, Welcome!
Second, thank you for understanding TMS and not viewing it as a threat to your livelihood. Personally, I think that is one of the first barriers which needs to be broken down if TMS is ever going to be treated correctly on a large scale.

The pain is real! The cause...well, that's complicated. ;) |
