I read this on the day 18th of wikipedia educational program...

"The first thing to do when there is pain is to figure out what is causing the pain. You will never know how to proceed unless you know what the problem is. Has your doctor told you if you have any loss of sensation, muscle strength or reflexes in your legs? As you are probably aware by now, bulging discs are common in people without pain, so that disc bulge may not have anything to do with your pain. Have you looked carefully at what was going on in your life at the time when your pain started? Does your pain improve when you cope better with stress and do the writing exercises? Does your pain worsen when you are stressed, angry or upset?

"In order to heal TMS, one must KNOW that they have TMS. If you are unsure, seek a consultation from a doctor who specializes in TMS. If that is impossible, you will have to proceed based on your best understanding. If your doctors tell you that there is no nerve damage and they have approved exercise, then you can go ahead and exercise. Once you are sure that you have TMS and that there is no problem in your back, you should start to treat your back normally. You should begin to exercise and gradually increase your activity to do everything that you want to do. If you hold back, you are showing that you are afraid and this feeling will tend to prevent you from a full recovery. "

And..that is the thing with this kind of pain i have,it is almost imposible to see if there is nerve entrapement,or nerve damage in any kind of tests,ct scan,MRI'S MRNS' ETC untill you go to surgery and they open you and can see the entrapement,i think i'm quitting here,my pain level is worse that when i strted this program, maybe i have a lot of past issues" but certainly i went to surgery last year and two weeks after i developed this pain, wich onnly tells me that i have scar tissue entraping my pudendal.

Very sad and discouraged,sorry

Hi lara,

Here is my interpretation of the secton you quoted form the wiki program. If the wording is holding you back then take a break and work from Dr. Sarno's books for a time.

All you really need to know from your doctor is that you do not have a serious disease, that you are in no danger. You dont have to get caught up in confirmation with imaging studies. Dr Sarno says in his books that nerve compression causes numbness, not pain. Surgery often provides a placebo cure that can go away over time. TMS is muscle/nerve pain caused by the autonomic nervous system as the distraction.

The pain is real, and is as intense as you describe. I remember being in your situation many times. I also remember obsessing about what my MRIs showed, and that I had a structural problem that would never go away. I was convinced that the structural issues were causing all this. I was wrong !!! I know I was wrong because my low back pain is now gone, the structual diagnosis was wrongly made by the doctors.

What you could ask of your doctor is a pain killer for a short time to take the edge off so you can do your TMS work, which is the long term cure. Dr. Sarno prescribes that in cases when needed.

Take care, -Stryder

Hi Lara,

In an email, StveO wrote me the following and he may have had you in mind, hope it helps, I put a link to her below.

Keep the TMS Faith,

From SteveO:

"Also, there was another person I wanted to get to but didn't, someone was asking about vulvudinia or pelvic floor pain. Can't remember who, but that person needs to look up Abigail Steidley. Abbey is gorgeous and has set up a company to heal people, her pain was the pelvic floor problem, so that person needs to seek her out. Maybe you can find that pelvic thread and let them know."

I agree with Stryder. By all means take a break and get some pain relief. You are human, not superwoman. There are no time constraints. The programme is there is help you as and when you choose. It does not dictate that when you reach Day 18, you must be 1/3 cured, not still in pain, certainly not in the worst pain ever. If this is the worst pain ever, Lara, you can only get better.

It sounds like you are extremely anxious and panicking about everything: the pain, dealing with your family, your past, what the doctors say or don't say, what you read about your condition via Google and trying to get your mind focused on recovering through journalling and accepting a totally new concept for you (TMS). It would make anyone's mind spin, or back ache or pelvic floor feel like it's going to burst.

You will be okay, Lara. You will be okay. Get some pain relief and do something for yourself that you enjoy and help you to focus on something or someone else.

And please think long and hard (once you have rested from all recent thinking) about having any surgery. It frightens me how in the US if you have the money even through your insurance you can always find a doctor to do what you want them to do. I had a relative in this situation and she always managed to find doctors to prescribe pills or perform this or that surgery.

Be strong. I know you can do it. I've read your other posts and you can overcome anything given the life you have lead so far. Feel free to PM me or email me.
