I found Sarno and this forum a few years back. I experienced 7 years of chronic back pain. My gazillionth trip to the chiro/physio and a diagnosis of disc issues sent me to the library where I just randomly grabbed every book they had about back pain. Sarno's book just happened to be in that pile. It took me some time to make the pain go away, but I did and it's REALLY gone. I stopped coming to the board because each time I did my back pain would creep back up a little. It gave me this little twang like "I'm still here, beeyotch!" The concept of "forgetting" TMS was a reality for me. I truly had to forget its existence to fully recover.
So what am I doing back here now? Digestive problems. I had IBS with diarrhea for 20 years. The last 5 years were much better, but about 3 years ago I started having upper digestive issues. This evolved into chest pains, GERD type symptoms, nausea and burping. Now I have nagging, relentless stomach pain. My allergy doctor gave me a long list of foods to avoid (allergies), which I did and felt absolutely fantastic for the first three days. Now my stomach pain is back. I still need to rule out anything else--like an ulcer or gallbladder problem--but life has been very emotional since July. To make an extraordinarily long story short, I'm looking for a new job. Yesterday I got a call about a possible phone interview. A second call today confirmed the phone interview. Cramps started last night and escalated after the phonecall.
Do the math.
I'm still a bit stuck on the physical piece of this. I'm on an acid reducer, a probiotic, an allergy pill and digestive enzymes. I hope to come off of these things soon, but now is not the right time.
Since I "forgot" about TMS, I'm kind of starting over with how to combat it. I'm re-reading Divided Mind right now and I intend to watch the video again this weekend.
Any other advice from fellow digestive sufferers is welcome. |

I used to have digestive problems this was quite a few years ago way before I knew about TMS. I used to take Pepcid I had bad heart burn and IBS type symtoms. I never went to the doctor for it just lived with it and took over the counter meds for many years. Then since I am a tea person not coffee someone mentioned ginger tea and stopping caffeine which at that time was from constant comment tea and diet coke. I quit both and except for rare times of caffeine I drink my ginger aid tea by medicinals daily.
About a few years ago I went to doctor for checkup and she said my stomach used to be hard and that I had naturally healed it, I said I no longer had heartburn or IBS type stuff either. She was happy so was I.
To this day still drink same tea rarely have any issues unless I drink too much red wine.
I know this answer doesn't fit with TMS stuff but it worked for me. Can't hurt to try.
Also I take 1 t of natural fiber i use a brand with no artificial dyes or anything in it mixed with juice and water daily, that helps to stay regular too. |

I haven't given up gluten because it did not come up on my allergen list. However, I do avoid it. I've been tested for celiac and that was negative.
I haven't had caffeine/coffee in decades. I only drink water as my beverage. Sometimes I drink lemonade or Sprite, but I am now allergic to lemons so that's out. I was drinking peppermint tea for my IBS, but not regularly. I may try that or ginger tea. |

Slippery elm is a gentle herbal treatment for gastric troubles. It might not help but won't add to your woes. Keep on keeping on. Don't ever ever ever give up. The work is hard, as I know. |
