Hello,

I just need to vent a little so forgive me for not being more positive right now. I am having a lot of pain and just cannot imagine this going away. I am fighting the thought that there is really somthing wrong with my trigeminal nerve or dental implant on that side or tooth with a root canal. I have aching pain. I have been doing lots of journaling and TMS work. Before this horrible pain I had OCD and would become a hypochondriac at times. That was easy for me to get out of though because if I got a check up and all was normal it would blow over. This awful face/mouth pain however has produced an completely different type of fear. Instead of fearing a fatal illness I fear living in this pain.

I am also trying to get off of all medications and I know it is causing stress that is in turn causing more TMS. Taking anti anxiety medication like valium helps my pain a lot. This is probably an indication of TMS too. Anyway, just feeling discouraged and sad right now. Wishing this never would have happened and wondering if I will ever be pain and anxiety free. Again, sorry for being negative. I have always been such an impatient person, I think that is why I am struggling now.

Hi Becca,

Yes, we all have good days and not so good days. Since you are on the TMS road you will have more good days, so hang in there.

I too have some OCD and anxiety, and can for certain inform you that "You are not your thoughts." I have fallen into this same trap many times, and my mind starts playing the movie, over and over and over. This is TMS at its best, has your brain going back and forth,, and you are trying to figure it all out. This is the distraction of TMS that Dr. Sarno describes.

So, breathe.

One way to stop OCD thinking (past and future issues) is to start "living in the now",,, its also called "mindfullness". Do a couple google searches to learn more.

Regarding coming off meds, some meds have guidelines for tapering (reducing slowly) your dosage. Some meds take days/weeks to discontinue properly. Follow the advice of your doc for discontinuance dosages.

Yes, its very very hard to be patient. Take it one day at a time. You can do it.

Thought I responded to this yesterday, but maybe I didn't.

In any case, my story includes a major issue coming off of Xanax. At least 6 months of sever symptoms before it got better. (Still dealing with some.) But, I am healing. It is a real, physical event for many. (Not all, though.) But, again... probably half of the pubic can come off of Xanax with little or no problem. So, don't assume you'll have these issues. Just taper as slowly as you can, and work with your doctor.

Stryder had great advice, once again as well.

-7/16/2010 - Anxiety stays/worsens - put on Xanax
2/1/2011 - Began Xanax taper - Withdrawal starts - full body chaos
-6/11/2011 - Last dose of Xanax. Physical/emotional chaos continues for several months.
-Now: Taking it day by day, looking for real answers and ways to heal myself without medical poison.

Thanks!! I need to practice mindfullness because it does not come naturally. I feel very guilty very easily. The past just keeps spinning itself in my head. I know this is holding me back too. Yes, one day at a time. I am trying to just keep going even if there is pain.

I agree that if you take xanax type meds daily you can get a physical reaction. I went through this to some degree. A medication, clonezepam, was given to me for burning pain and I had panic, even more then usual, when I went from daily use to as needed.

Bec,

Glad you got down to as-needed for the clonzepam. The last thing we TMS'ers need is a real, physical withdrawal issue to deal with. (Take it from me!)

(By the way, I think all humans are TMS'ers to some extent. :) )
