On Monday I went to see a physio for the first time. This was arranged before I knew about TMS, such non-urgent things have a long wait on the National Health Service.

Anyway, after an examination he said anything injured would have long since healed and offered stretches and acupuncture (which surprised me), but said it would give nothing but temporary relief if I didn't deal with the main issue which was stress and tension.

Does this sound a little like the ideas of Sarno are reaching mainstream medicine in the UK?

I was referred to a physio one December. The appointment came through a few months later by which time I had recovered from my sciatica attack but still experienced the odd twinge. I decided to book an appointment for a couple of weeks later. The day I arrived I was in the throes of another major attack. I had read HBP but was not 100% convinced about TMS at that point. When I mentioned TMS to the physio and about my pain being possibly caused by oxygen deprivation and had he heard of Sarno, he passed it off with a nod, saying he had read about this in another book by a different author. He obviously wasn't taken with the idea.

Nice to hear about your physio. Sounds like a fairly positive experience.
