And now something for the guys:
http://articles.latimes.com/2011/oct/08/health/la-he-psa-test-20111008
From this article, a great point as to why it's so difficult for Dr. Sarno's theory to gain traction on a wider basis--but someday...
"Any time a medical test or treatment that we believe should work is subjected to science and the science doesn't show what we hoped for, it's very disturbing to the medical establishment and to patients," he said. But, he added, "we have to eat a pretty big chunk of crow and say this didn't turn out to be true." |

TT, thanks for posting this. It applies to me, as I had a false positive test almost two years ago and then had a biopsy, which found nothing. Actually, I'm due to get another annual psa soon as well as check in with the urologist afterwards. Apparently, once you decide to get on this treadmill they expect you to stay on it. Very controversial test. I have had one doc tell me he would never personally get the test and I heard that another said the same thing and even discourages his patients from getting it. My urologist, however, says that he does get the test. Hmmm...what to make of it. All I know is, I wish I had never got the first test, but it's hard to put the genie back now. |

Your welcome WT, my brother is OCD about his prostrate. It's no coincidence that he has much TMS emotional stuff going on with a bad marriage and pending divorce. He has had several biopsies and sees his uro more that regularly.
I read recently, that the doctor who invented the PSA has very publicly disavowed it and says it is no good. When I ask why it is still used, I'm told it has some "relative" value. I think this is hogwash, the uro docs just have not been able to quickly come up with a substitute.
I went to a uro for the first time to get an RX for Flowmax to help with urinary urgency while flying or driving, (it does help BTW). When I needed to refill it, the doc's office said I would have to come in for a routine exam. Ka'ching, ka'ching--this is a racket that keeps a steady stream of customers coming into the uros offices.
So it looks like the invasive biopsy procedure can do more harm than the disease itself.
If I've offended any uros, sorry, even chiros think they are doing good I'm sure.
I'm going to give a copy of the article to my brother now that his situation is improving, and he doesn't need it for TMS protection much anymore. He did have a severe vertigo attack that took him to the ER and after reading this article it may well have been due to all the PSA procedures. I don't have to go to the uro every six months, since I can get the Flomax from my brother and my Dad's old stock.

very interesting. ive read similar stories before. i had a bout with "prostatitis" in my early twenties. digital exam showed a sensitive prostate when massaged. was treated with antibiotics. came off antibiotics b/c of the reaction i had to the levaquin. doc called in cipro, pharmacist said the cipro was in the same family as the levaquin and advised me not to take it and ask for a different drug. doc prescribed bactrim ds. i had reaction to it. stopped taking, went back to urologist and he said to start the bactrim again, he felt my reactions to the meds were just anxiety. i went home came back a week or so later and the doctor done a digital exam. there was no pain or inflammation. i told him that i didnt even take the antibiotics. and he said that was amazing b/c he no idea how or why it got better.
i have read on this site about stress and prostate problems and i fully believe in that. my psa levels are slightly elevated and have been for since my mid 20's. i am 30 now. i dont ever give it any thought anymore and dont have it anymore. i have had the symptoms of the levator ani syndrome and all that and shooting pains around the rectum. i feel it is tms also |
