I am a Board Member at the Condo Community where I live. We have meetings every month . for the past 3 or 4 years I have been limping in having trouble walking, standing sitting..you name it. Since the summer my condition has improved greatly. SOme of the board members are aware of my "Sarno" phylosophy .
Last night when I arrived walking ,sitting and standing just like everyone else a member commented on my healthy appearence. I was asked what I attributed my improvement to. I replied that I am a believer in MINDBODY and to Dr. Sarno's books.
I don't usually like to get into discussions with others about Sarno because they all think I am crazy. A colleague, a medical doctor, told me I wasn't crazy but that I was just wrong..
Ha !!!!!!!!!

Good for you Marsha! I have the same experience with people who knew how bad off I was a couple of years ago. When they see me now, back to normal, they always ask what finally worked because they knew I had tried everything and it looked pretty hopeless. When I start to explain, I get this weird look. Almost like "oh...so it was all in your head...". Unfortunately, I was probably one of those people who would have thought the explanation was nuts before this happened to me. I think sometimes you need to hit rock bottom, after having tried every physical remedy available, before Sarno's and similar approaches hit home for you. And you'll never get agreement from your average medical doctor!

I saw a segment on the evening news last night about how carrying around anger and resentment can cause health issues. They were focusing on a guy who admitted being so angry over being passed up for promotions, etc, he eventually had a heart attack. It seems to be acceptable making that connection with heart attacks or tension headaches but it's still a leap for most people to extend that logic to back pain, shoulder pain, or any other type of pain where you can find a physical imperfection.

Glad to hear you are doing well!

it is funny that we spent tons of money paying strangers (therapists) to listen to our troubles because we couldn't share those feelings with our family and closest friends.

That's great Marsha! Maybe there's hope for my "arthritic" hip yet. Did you get tired of people asking/telling you about getting a hip-replacement? Great job of that doc laying a NOCEBO on you. What amazes me is that psychotherapists have never heard--NOR SHOW ANY INTEREST--in hearing about Dr. Sarno.

Cheers
