Just read this great book by Tim Parks. It's about a novelist and academic dealing with a mind-body issue, in his case chronic pelvic pain. He solves it using relaxation techniques and meditation.

It reminded me of TMS because of the scapegoat diagnoses his doctors were giving him (and recommending surgery), because of the description of the actual cause of pain as something very like TMS (blood flow restriction causing muscle and nerve pain due to emotional factors).

It's also (as you'd expect from an award winning novelist) a very good read.

Just to second this as being a really good read. The guy really has an interesting TMS type journey where he slowly comes to the realisation that a cure for his ailment will not be found in traditional dualist medicine but rather by taking responsibilty for his own healing.

An enjoyable and enlightening read.

In case I didn't make it clear. It isn't a novel, it's autobiography. This is a real guy going through a lot of the same things we all go through with TMS.
